A murder case has now been registered
An Indian man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife by injecting cyanide into her drip bottle at a hospital.
The victim, Urmila Vasava, died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital for chest pains.
She was being treated in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar district.
Vasava died in July 2021. However, the cause of her death only recently came to light after the police received a forensic report on Friday, August 6, 2021.
According to the report, Vasava died after cyanide was injected into her body, which her husband Jignesh Patel obtained from the factory where he worked.
Reports also say that Patel and Vasava were not happy in their seven-year marriage and that Patel killed his wife as a result of this.
A police official said that Vasava was first taken to the Gujarat hospital on July 8, 2021, after complaining of chest pains.
Speaking about the details of the case, the official said:
“When the victim was undergoing treatment, the accused stealthily took out a cyanide tablet and made a solution out of it.
“He then injected the solution into the drip bottle attached to her using a syringe when the doctors and other hospital staff were not present there.”
According to the police official, Urmila Vasava died soon after the cyanide entered her body, and the police initially lodged a case of accidental death.
However, it became apparent that her death was deliberate after they received the forensic report.
The report established her cause of death to be cyanide. Police then located Jignesh Patel on Saturday, August 7, 2021, and arrested him for killing his wife.
A murder case has now been registered against Patel under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
It is not uncommon for Indian men to kill their wives due to marital issues.
In another tragic incident, an Indian husband from Kerala murdered his newlywed wife after suspecting she was having an affair.
Thirty-year-old Saheer Kuttyali killed his 20-year-old wife Muhsila on February 16, 2021, while she slept.
The pair had only been married for six months. SHO Nissam, of Mukkam police station, said:
“The couple got married on September 5, 2021. It was an arranged marriage.
“According to the statement of the accused, he had doubts about his wife and it started disturbing him mentally.
“Gradually he developed severe sleep disorder. On Monday night also, he was awake till committing the crime.
“He said it happened on a sudden thought. This is just a primary conclusion. We are investigating more details.”
