An Indian father was arrested on June 10, 2020, after he hacked two people to death.
The man, from Haryana, had committed the double murder in Rajasthan. It was reported that he did it in anger after his married daughter ran away with her lover.
One of the victims was the brother of the man his daughter eloped with.
Police identified the accused as 40-year-old Anil Jat. He was angry after his daughter Suman left her husband and ran away with a man named Krishna.
Jat had threatened Krishna’s family with dire consequences if Suman did not return.
When the two lovers did not return, Jat travelled to Jhunjhunu on June 8, 2020.
According to police official Devendra Pratap, Jat took an axe and murdered Krishna’s brother Deepak and his friend Naresh while they were sleeping.
Their bodies were discovered by Deepak’s father Rajveer at around 4 am.
Rajveer immediately informed the police. A police team soon arrived and they later found the axe, situated a few metres from the murder scene.
It was revealed that Suman had eloped on June 2.
Deputy Superintendent Gyan Singh explained: “During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the daughter of the accused Anil Jat, a native of Mahendragarh district in Haryana, had got married in Lalamandi village of Buhana town.
“She is allegedly absconding with another son of Rajveer identified as Krishna and things were not good between the two families.
“On June 2, the in-laws of the Anil’s daughter had reported her missing. We further collected evidence and detained him.”
Jat had travelled to Rajasthan on a bike.
DSP Singh said: “The accused’s movements were also captured in a CCTV placed in Buhana police station area.
“After his bike got stuck in the partially constructed road, Anil walked till Rajveer’s house and killed both the young men sleeping on the roof.
“While fleeing the spot the axe fell at some distance from his hand.”
According to DSP Singh, the Indian father confessed to the double murder and said that he would kill his daughter and her lover once he is released.
He added: “The accused also wanted to kill Rajveer but he was not able to find him.
“Jat told that I have lost my prestige in society because of Rajveer’s son and I will take revenge.”
Deepak had one sister and one brother Krishna. His sister is married but both brothers are not.
Deepak and Naresh were preparing to get into the armed forces. According to the police, both of them used to wake up early in the morning which is why Naresh used to sleep at Deepak’s house.
Jat has five previous cases against him, including cheating, rioting and possession of illegal arms in Haryana and Rajasthan.
