After seeing his wife take her own life, Neeraj also jumped
An Indian couple committed suicide at around midnight on Thursday, November 28, 2019, following a row.
They had both jumped in front of a train at a railway station in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
It was revealed that they had been married for 14 years in what was a love marriage.
Police have confirmed that the causes of death were suicide. The couple has been identified as 37-year-old Neeraj and Nisha, aged 35.
Neeraj and Nisha tied the knot in what was a love marriage. Since getting married, they have been living in the city of Yamunanagar where Neeraj was a photographer. They had two sons, aged 14 and eight.
According to police, the Indian couple would get into arguments with each other. Family members have also stated that they frequently rowed.
On the night of Wednesday, November 27, 2019, the couple got into an argument.
The quarrel became so heated that Nisha stormed out of the house and went to the railway station. Her husband soon followed.
On the platform, the couple continued to argue. At midnight, as the Ferozepur-Dhanbad Express approached, Nisha jumped off the platform.
After seeing his wife take her own life, Neeraj also jumped in front of the train.
Their bodies were discovered by the Government Railway Police at around 7 am.
Nisha’s father Dhaniram told police that his daughter committed suicide as she constantly argued with her husband.
A case was registered by the police. While it was confirmed that they died as a result of suicide, it is not known why the couple would take such extreme action given that they had married out of love.
Officers are also working to find out what the argument was about and why it led to the couple taking their own lives.
Following the post-mortem, the bodies of the two deceased have been handed over to their relatives.
In a similar incident which also took place in Haryana, a love marriage couple committed suicide by consuming poison.
The incident left the police baffled as there had been no issues between the couple. They had also been married for a matter of days.
It was heard that after a year, Sumit returned to his family’s home with a young woman called Riya.
Sumit told his family that they had married and for four days, the couple lived happily.
However, on the night of October 15, when everybody was asleep, Sumit and Riya decided to take their own lives.
Riya loudly called for her father-in-law. When Anand entered their room, she told her husband to eat something before consuming the same thing.
Both of them soon collapsed. After realising it was poison, Anand rushed them to the hospital but it was too late.
The distraught father told police that he did not understand why they decided to commit suicide.
The matter is still being investigated but officers suspect that Sumit made a suicide pact with his wife which is why he returned to his home after a year.
