“Sahil Sharma’s actions have devastated a family."
A man pleaded guilty to murder following the fatal stabbing of his teenage wife in Croydon.
Sahil Sharma appeared at Kingston Crown Court on February 8, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to the murder of 19-year-old Mehak Sharma.
Sharma plunged a knife into his wife’s neck at their home on Ash Tree Way.
Shortly after 4:15 pm on October 29, 2023, he dialled 999 and calmly told the operator that he had killed his wife.
At the address, officers found Mrs Sharma unresponsive.
She had suffered catastrophic knife injuries to her neck and despite the efforts of medics at the scene, Mrs Sharma was pronounced dead around 20 minutes later.
Mrs Sharma’s family were informed and they continue to be supported by specialist officers.
A special post-mortem examination was conducted on October 31. It found the cause of Mrs Sharma’s death to have been a stab wound to the neck.
Detective Inspector Laura Semple, of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said:
“Sahil Sharma’s actions have devastated a family.
“In killing his wife he has robbed her family of a loving daughter for reasons known only to himself.
“While I am pleased that Mehak Sharma’s loved ones will now be spared the experience of going through a trial, nothing can bring her back to them.”
The 24-year-old is due to be sentenced at the same court on April 26, 2024.
DI Semple added: “Mehak was killed in her own home, the place where she should have been safest, by the person who should have loved and protected her.
“My thoughts today are with her family and loved ones.”
In a previous case of a husband murdering his spouse, Satpreet Singh Gandhi received a life sentence for fatally stabbing his estranged wife Harleen Kaur Satpreet Gandhi.
He waited outside her flat in Headingley, Leeds, before confronting her, accusing her of cheating on him and attacking her.
After sentencing, the victim’s parents said they were “shattered” by her death.
Gandhi had an arranged marriage with Harleen after the death of his first wife – Harleen’s older sister. Gandhi and Simran Kaur had a child together.
After Simran’s death, her parents arranged for Harleen to marry Gandhi in order to take care of her sister’s child.
It was alleged that Simran died of a heart attack.
However, the parents suspected that Gandhi may have also killed their other daughter.
Gandhi and Harleen moved to the UK in March 2021.
He displayed controlling behaviour but no police case was filed.
They separated approximately six months before the murder.
