Afterwards, she would ask them for money.
Police in Ludhiana, Punjab, have arrested an Instagram influencer on charges of blackmailing and extortion.
The accused was identified as Jasneet Kaur, an influencer from Mohali.
According to the police, she ran an operation where she blackmailed and extorted money from her male social media followers by sending them her nude pictures.
Jasneet, who also goes by the name of Rajbir Kaur, was arrested following a complaint filed by a businessman who claimed that she was blackmailing him.
In addition to her arrest, police also seized a BMW and a mobile phone.
Jasneet is an Instagram influencer with two accounts on the platform. Her most prominent account boasts nearly 200,000 followers.
She is known for posting Reels of herself in her underwear or teasing nudity.
Jasneet allegedly ran her operation by mostly targeting rich men on social media.
She would befriend them and lure them by sending them nude pictures of herself.
While speaking to the targets, Jasneet would record the conversations, which were usually provocative.
Afterwards, she would ask them for money. If the victims refused to hand over the money, she would threaten them with the help of gangsters.
After her arrest, police revealed that the influencer was arrested in a similar case in 2008.
During questioning, Jasneet told police that she lived a lavish life.
An investigation was launched after a 33-year-old businessman from Ludhiana lodged a complaint.
He told police that he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number in November 2022 demanding money. The accused even threatened to harm him and his family.
Jasroop Kaur Batth, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana (West), said:
“We received a complaint from a local businessman saying that he was being blackmailed by the accused.”
“There are allegations that the accused was in touch with some gangsters who would issue threats to the victims. We are verifying the allegations.”
ACP Batth added that the case against Jasneet Kaur was registered on April 1, 2023, at the Model Town police station in Ludhiana.
Police have also booked Jasneet’s aide, Lucky Sandhu, who is a youth Congress leader.
According to officers, Lucky Sandhu used to make threatening calls to the probable targets whom Jasneet used to blackmail for money.
Lucky Sandhu is a well-known face and he is preparing for election to the post of general secretary of the Youth Congress.
Police said Lucky is currently on the run and efforts are being made to arrest him.
A case has been filed under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
After being produced in court, Jasneet was remanded to two days in police custody.
