Indian police have arrested the adopted daughter of Baba Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet Insan. She had gone into hiding for over a month since the guru’s conviction.

Honeypreet Insan first went into hiding after accompanying her adopted father to court on 25th August 2017. For over a month, Haryana police could not trace her and placed her on top of their  ‘wanted’ list.

She revealed she slipped into “depression” following Singh’s conviction of rape. Calling the Indian guru “Papa”, she claimed he is innocent of the charges and felt “devasted” over the claims of inciting the riots.

The violence in Panchkula caused 38 deaths and many suffering injuries. Honeypreet also denied allegations that she had sexual relations with Baba Ram Rahim Singh. She said:

“I cannot understand how anyone can point fingers at pious relations that are there between a father and his daughter. What proof have these people got to level such allegations? All those who are spreading such rumours, please do not believe them.”

She also addressed rumours that she went into hiding in Nepal, saying she had always stayed in India. Haryana police had previously searched the Indo-Nepal border for her, in response to these allegations.

Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, became Singh’s adopted daughter in 2009. She previously served as one of his confidants. Thought to be in her 30s, she also appeared in several of Singh’s films. Yet showed no ambition of working in Bollywood.
