Singh allegedly told her "to keep him happy"
Haryana’s Minister for Printing and Stationary Sandeep Singh is facing molestation allegations from a women’s coach from the state’s sports department.
Chandigarh Police filed a chargesheet against Singh.
The alleged victim said the probe took eight months but the attempted rape charge has not been pressed.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the chargesheet, she said that while evidence highlighted that the minister tried to rape her, Chandigarh Police watered down the charges.
Officers have probed molestation, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and using a word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman against Singh.
The alleged victim added: “I have been suspended for raising my voice, but the accused minister Sandeep Singh is hoisting the national flag on Independence Day.
“I am surprised that the CM, who called my allegations ‘anargal’ (intemperate) has not removed him yet.”
Her lawyer Sameer Sethi said: “When the stage would come for the framing of the charges, we would press for the inclusion of attempt to rape section against the minister.”
The coach told officers that Singh contacted her on Instagram and Snapchat.
On July 1, 2022, Singh allegedly called her on Snapchat and asked her to meet him at his home in Chandigarh.
The woman said Singh pressured her to get her documents verified for the coaching job and offered to get her sponsorship.
That same day, she took an Uber to Singh’s residence and reached there at around 6:50 pm. She met him at his office.
Singh allegedly called her to a room to check her documents.
According to the woman, Sandeep Singh began molesting her and telling her that he liked her.
He allegedly told her to stop running around and that he would get her a sponsor and have her Instagram profile verified.
Singh allegedly told her “to keep him happy as other girls also don’t refuse him”.
The woman said he continued to molest her and tried to kiss her. When she resisted and pushed him, he tore her T-shirt.
She managed to push him away and escape, foiling the minister’s “rape attempt”.
When questioned, Singh confessed that the coach came to his residence but denied the allegations. He also said how long she was there, however, it contradicted Uber’s travel record, which said she left at 8:38 pm.
Her legal representative Deepanshu Bansal said:
“There is enough evidence for pressing attempt to rape charge against Sandeep Singh.”
Officers said Singh shared with the coach a confidential list of appointments in the Sports Department on May 13, 2022, to gain her trust.
After the alleged incident, the coach claimed Sandeep Singh continued to harass her by creating problems for her training.
Her foreign training permission was also denied and she was transferred to Jhajjar from Panchkula, where there were no athletics track facilities.
