“He started harassing me and pressuring me for favours."
Prominent television anchor Eshal Adnan has come forward with serious allegations of harassment and intimidation against senior journalist and television host Aftab Iqbal.
In a recent interview, Eshal revealed that she had been working at Express News at the same time Aftab Iqbal was hosting his show for the network.
She explained that she was promoted after another female co-host left the programme, an opportunity she was genuinely excited about.
However, according to her, the situation quickly turned disturbing when Aftab Iqbal allegedly began making inappropriate advances and “personal requests.”
She claimed: “He started harassing me and pressuring me for favours.”
Eshal added that she refused to comply with his demands.
After her refusal, she said Aftab became hostile and warned her that he would make sure she never appeared on screen again.
Eshal also stated that actors Nasir Chiniyoti and Ruby Anam were present at the time and witnessed how the situation unfolded.
Shortly afterwards, she claimed she was removed from the show without explanation, which she believes was retaliation for rejecting Aftab’s advances.
The anchor said she decided to speak out now because she could no longer remain silent about what she experienced.
Aftab Iqbal has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Known as one of Pakistan’s most recognisable media personalities, Aftab Iqbal gained fame through his satirical television programmes and talk shows.
He first rose to prominence with Hasb e Haal, a show that blended political humour with social commentary and became a national hit.
Following creative differences with the team, he moved on to host other popular shows such as Khabarnaak and Khabardaar, bringing theatre actors into mainstream television.
Throughout his long career, Aftab has often found himself at the centre of controversies.
These range from professional disputes to personal scandals.
Previous reports revealed that his former co-host, Mariyam Ali Hussain, had married him, and the couple had two children before eventually separating.
Despite their divorce, Aftab reportedly continues to care for his two sons from that marriage.
Eshal Adan’s allegations have reignited public debate about workplace harassment and accountability in Pakistan’s media landscape.
As the accusations circulate online, many await Aftab Iqbal’s response, which could determine the next course of this escalating controversy.
