In Rakesh Roshan’s Koyla (1997), Deepshikha Nagpal played the supporting role of Bindiya Rani.
Bindiya is the lover of the elderly violent Raja Choudhury (Amrish Puri), who is dangerously attracted to younger women.
In one particular intimate scene, Bindiya tries to seduce Raja by dropping her top and attempting to have sex with him.
When this fails, Bindiya tries to get Shankar Hariya Thakur (Shah Rukh Khan) to satisfy her but falls into the clutches of Brijwa Choudhury (Salim Ghouse).
Deepshikha Nagpal recently addressed the backlash she received for the bold scene she performed with Puri.
She said: “There was the Bindiya Rani scene with Amrish Puri. That character itself was like that.
“She had to work with Amrish Puri. Nowadays, people often make such scenes sleazy [by] asking actresses to remove their clothes and all.
“But this character wasn’t like that. She had no choice and that’s why she ended up loving Shah Rukh Khan’s character.
“What lighting! Sameer Arya had done fantastic lighting.
“Rakesh Ji asked me, ‘Deepshikha, this is the kind of scene we need to do. How should we go about it?’
“I told him, ‘No problem, Rakesh Ji. How do you want to shoot it?’
“He said, ‘We’ll shoot from the front’.
“I was wearing a tube top and I said, ‘I’ll keep my hand like this’.
“From the back, I was wearing a swimming costume, and I placed my hand just so.
“It was shot in a way that suggested frontal nudity without showing anything.
“My mum was watching it – yes, we all did it, but onscreen, the impact was, ‘Oh my God, she removed her clothes!’
“People don’t respect you anymore. But look at today, every heroine, every second actress is doing lovemaking scenes.”
“So what did I even do back then? I was glamorous – I had good legs, a little cleavage was showing – so what was wrong with that?
“I had to do that back then, but I’m not ashamed. I’m very proud of my work.”
Koyla also starred Madhuri Dixit as Gauri Singh. The film performed averagely at the box office but has gained a popular following over time.
On the work front, Deepshikha Nagpal’s last film appearance was in One Day: Justice Delivered (2019).
She was last seen as Devi Sahay in the television series Ishq Jabariya in 2025.
