"It’s heartbreaking that he lost his life."
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film, Love & War, is one of the most anticipated Bollywood movies.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles.
However, a tragic incident occurred on the film’s sets.
A crew member, reportedly named Chandradhari Yadav, died of an electric shock.
According to official sources, the technician was also a carpenter. He was married with two daughters.
After Yadav’s death, Bhansali Productions has offered his family Rs 40 lakhs (£31,925).
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) stated:
“Firstly, we want the compensation to be Rs 50 lakh given his children are very young, and the family will need aide for their education.
“Also, we have called for stricter safety measures on set, and also have the work hours streamlined for these workers.
“He was such a talented technician, and it’s heartbreaking that he lost his life this way.”
President BN Tiwari added: “The system needs strict regulation.
“We have repeatedly raised these issues with producers and authorities, but very little has changed.”
Tiwari alleged that key facilities, including ambulances and fire safety measures, are often missing on Bollywood film sets.
Meanwhile, Love & War was announced in January 2024. After several delays, the film is now set to be released in 2027.
It marks Ranbir’s second collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after his debut, Saawariya (2007).
Ranbir also assisted Sanjay on the sets of Black (2005). Sanjay has also directed Alia in Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).
Love & War will be Ranbir and Alia’s second film together after Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022).
It is Ranbir and Vicky’s third outing following Bombay Velvet (2015) and Sanju (2018).
Speaking about Love & War, Ranbir said: “To work with brilliant actors like Alia and Vicky and to be directed by the master, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I worked with him 17 years ago.
“To work with him again, I can say this with so much clarity that I haven’t met a human being who works so hard, who understands characters, emotions, music, Indian culture, Indian value system, as much as Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
“Just to be on his set, it is tiring. It is long. The process can be a little daunting, but eventually, as an artist, it is so satisfying.
“He really nurtures art. As actors, it’s truly been amazing.”
Sanjay previously helmed the web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024).
Along with Love & War, Ranbir will also be seen in the lead role of Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana series.
Alia Bhatt is currently gearing up for Alpha, the seventh instalment of the YRF Spy Universe.
The film is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2026.
