"If I lose my temper, what is wrong in it?"
Sanjay Leela Bhansali reacted to rumours that he loses his temper while working on his productions.
The filmmaker has frequently been on the receiving end of allegations that he shouts on set and works actors too hard.
Commenting on these rumours, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said: “I do long takes, lengthy shots. It’s difficult for them.
“I’m throwing the challenge at you; I’m throwing the ace at you.
“You have to throw three aces back at me. And if you don’t, you have to wait in the van for a little while and come back.
“If I’m not getting what I want, even if I lose my temper, what is wrong in it?
“If you’re not getting a shot, and if someone is spoiling it, what will you do?
“People have made stories that I’m angry, that I’m badly behaved. What we go through on the set is not important.
“What we create on set for the world is important.
“When I shouted at somebody or got angry with somebody or laughed and joked with somebody, it’s never going to be remembered.
“What car I came in, what palatial house I live in, nobody is interested.
“I want to know what Raj Kapoor left behind, not the bungalow that he lived in, not the turmoil on his set or what his actors went through.”
In 2024, Richa Chadha defended Sanjay Leela Bhansali against similar claims.
The actress said: “No offence to actors but today even they have become lazy and with Sanjay sir, you have to act with your whole body and give 100 percent focus.
“It’s not easy to work with him, but what happens there are times when you see something and you see an actor where you feel he or she is not into it, and with Sanjay sir, you cannot do that cheating with the master.”
On the other hand, Salman Khan recently confirmed that Bhansali is a shouter on set.
He explained: “[Sanjay Leela Bhansali] was yelling, and apparently he does that a lot.
“I told him to hang out with Sooraj [R Barjatya] for a bit. He is throwing things.”
“He told me, ‘Yeah, I am losing it’. I said that the first thing you do (is keep patience) to make your actor look beautiful.”
On the work front, Bhansali last helmed the Netflix web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024).
He will soon begin work on his next film titled Love and War.
The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
