After an eight-year hiatus, Bangladesh’s beloved rock band Chirkutt will return with a new album.
With over two decades of musical influence in the country, Chirkutt has earned a reputation both locally and internationally.
The band is known for their unique blend of rock, folk, and contemporary styles.
Their last album, Udhao, was released in 2017 and since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from the band.
The wait has finally come to an end, as Chirkutt’s upcoming album is set to be released later in April 2025.
In a time when the music industry is increasingly dominated by singles, the band’s decision to release an album shows their dedication.
While the album was previously hinted at under the title Pendulum, it will now drop under a different name.
The new album will feature 10 original tracks, with themes reflecting contemporary issues and emotions, much like their past work.
Frontwoman Sharmin Sultana Sumi said:
“We’ve worked on this fourth album with great care. It feels joyful to be releasing an album for our listeners after such a long break.”
She emphasised how Chirkutt is more than just a band to the members; it’s a family, and every effort is for their dedicated fans.
Sumi also gave fans a glimpse into the creative process behind the album.
She revealed on social media: “We initially created 20 songs and carefully selected the final 10.
“This album has been made for our countless fans at home and abroad, who are our source of inspiration, love, and emotion.”
The album’s release is especially meaningful as it coincides with the eve of the Bengali New Year, a time of renewal and celebration in Bangladesh.
Sumi added:
“To be able to create this cool shade of musical journey in our own language, through our own thoughts, is an indescribable joy.”
Chirkutt’s debut album Chirkutnama was released in 2010, followed by Jadur Shohor in 2013.
Alongside their own releases, the band has also made waves with their playback performances in films like Doob, Aynabaji, and Bhubon Majhi.
Known for their innovative sound and socially conscious lyrics, Chirkutt has earned a place in the hearts of music lovers across generations.
With their fourth studio album just around the corner, Chirkutt is ready to make an unforgettable return to the spotlight.
