"An album, for us, is a collection of our thoughts, our language."
Chirkutt has returned with new music, ending an eight-year break with the release of their fourth studio album, Bhalobashashomogro.
Despite facing a turbulent period marked by internal changes, the rock band has regrouped and come back with renewed focus and a full album.
In recent years, Chirkutt saw major lineup changes.
Guitarist and composer Emon Chowdhury exited the band two years ago, followed by Jahid Nirob’s departure in 2024.
Drummer and producer Pavel Areen also shifted priorities toward solo work.
Yet, none of these changes could shake the band’s spirit.
With founder and lead vocalist Sharmin Sultana Sumi still at the helm, Chirkutt has embraced a new chapter with fresh faces and the same passion.
Bhalobashashomogro features 10 tracks and explores love in all its forms.
The first single, ‘Dami’, arrived with a music video and is now streaming on the band’s YouTube channel.
Three of the 10 songs will be released with full music videos, while the remaining seven will feature lyrical visuals.
All tracks are expected to drop within the same week.
Sumi shared that this album evolved from an earlier project titled ‘Pendulum’, which had been teased two years ago.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the title, Sumi said:
“From what I have seen of this world, love is the greatest energy.
“Without love, we have nothing to say, nothing to do.
“Love should be the language of our songs. That’s why we named the album Bhalobashashomogro.”
She added that each song represents a different form of love – be it romantic, compassionate, or spiritual.
The making of the album involved every member and many long discussions, which ultimately led to this shared creation.
Sumi acknowledged that releasing a full album in today’s fast-paced music world may seem unusual.
But for Chirkutt, music has never been about chasing trends.
She said: “People often ask, ‘Why release an album now? Why ten songs? Nobody does that anymore’.
“But honestly, we’ve never approached music with that kind of overthinking.”
Reflecting on their 23-year journey, Sumi explained that Chirkutt has always created from a place of honesty and instinct.
She added: “Whether it was CDs or digital platforms never mattered to us.
“An album, for us, is a collection of our thoughts, our language.”
Chirkutt’s musical path began in 2010 with Chirkutnama, followed by Jadur Shohor in 2013 and Udhao in 2017.
With Bhalobashashomogro, the band adds a new chapter, one driven by resilience, love, and a refusal to compromise their artistic voice.
