"Just because I called out management for only hiring 'Indians'."
A Canadian woman sparked an online debate after it was reported that she was fired from Tim Hortons for accusing the management of “only hiring Indians”.
A post on the matter was shared on X by Klaus Arminius.
According to the post, the employee was not happy that the Indian managers at her workplace were exclusively hiring Indian immigrants, creating an environment that favoured one nationality over others.
When she confronted her employers about the apparent discrimination, the woman was dismissed.
The post read: “This woman noticed Indian managers of Tim Hortons were hiring only other Indian immigrants; when she confronted the discriminatory hiring, she was fired.”
The post also featured a snapshot of the woman’s details.
It stated: “Just got fired from Tim Hortons after 4 years.
“Just because I called out management for only hiring ‘Indians’.
“So now I’m exposing everything they make us hide.”
With over 4.5 million views, the post sparked a debate over hiring practices and immigration in Canada.
Siding with the woman, one person commented:
“She should definitely make a complaint, there are laws against 1 hiring only from 1 ethnicity and 2 retaliation against employees. She’ll probably win big if she sues them.”
A comment read: “It’s a shame that speaking up led to her losing her job. Everyone deserves a voice.”

Another said the hiring practices were a form of racial discrimination and wrote:
“That’s called racial discrimination, it’s highly illegal and violates equal employment opportunity laws by favouring one race over another.
“You should get a good lawyer.”
Some claimed such practices are happening in other industries, as one pointed out:
“It’s not just Tim Hortons. The IT industry has been slowly doing this for decades. It’s why software sucks so bad now.
“Games are being released completely loaded with bugs and unfinished content.
“Security issues all over the place. The industry is failing.”
Another agreed:
“This seems like common practice now.”
“My 2 younger cousins in high school work in a Walmart and when the Indian manager took over for hiring, they said the store has become mostly Indian now.
“When before it was a mix of people.”
On the other hand, one person felt there was no problem with the Tim Hortons branch only hiring Indians.
“You can’t blame immigrants for getting jobs. If they’re qualified, they deserve a chance just like anyone else.”
Another did not believe the fast food branch was exclusively hiring Indians:
“Considering most of the greatest programmers and professors I’ve met were Indian or from that general area of the world I find this one incredibly difficult to believe.”
A fifth said, ”Canada is a nation built on immigration, but we need to ensure fairness for everyone involved, whether new to the country or not.”
