Winter brings with it a new season of fashionable nail colours. DESIblitz looks at the best lacquer shades that your fingertips should indulge in.

Best Nail Polish Colours for Winter

Gold is a winning combination of elegance and rich glittery goodness.

Cold days and even chillier nights have welcomed a new wardrobe for winter, imprisoning our fingers and toes inside knitted warmth.

But while our finger tips have been safely protected from the wind, there’s no reason to slack on some freshly painted nail game.

With a mixture of glitzy nights out and evenings by the fire with Netflix and hot chocolate to contend with, there is still ample opportunity to spread our finger tips and select a few lacquer paints to keep us looking polished.

So what are the best nail polish colours for winter? DESIblitz divulges all.

Gold

Nail Colours Gold

Winter means bitter cold and darker days, but it also means Christmas, New Year’s Eve and glamorously chic parties on every corner. Gold is a winning combination of elegance and rich glittery goodness.

Burberry Beauty’s Antique Gold is a richly dark shade of gold that perfectly contrasts a little black dress and sparkly jewellery. Edgy yet chic, the shiny lacquer sings fingers with the Midas touch!

You can even opt for sequinned tips for a fun party look. The Lancôme Vernis In Love collection for Christmas 2015 offers a glittery gold top coat that you can match with any colour underneath, for that added bit of razzle dazzle.

Dior’s Diorific State of Gold is absolutely sublime. Another Limited Edition Christmas treat, it mixes platinum and gold glitter for an everlasting sparkly effect, and promises to transform your nails into ‘pure gems’.

For a more glamour-meets-rock look, go for Nails inc Alexa Sequins collection. Style guru, Alexa Chung has designed a stunning polish inspired by fabrics.

The matte black base and gold metallic glitter offers an edged texture that mimics a sequined dress. Perfect for any night out.

Blue

Nail Colours Blue

Blue hues are perfect for cold winter days. Its many delectable shades mean there is a colour to suit any occasion.

Our particular favourite is Laura Mercier’s Attitude nail polish. A gorgeous icy blue that any Ice Queen won’t be able to get enough of! A great daytime look, these frosty tips will perfectly match your woolly attire.

Alternatively, navy blue is also a big winter trend. Butter London’s Royal Blue brilliantly offsets any outfit and the deep hue will stand out for miles.

Winter offers the opportunity to experiment with different tones and textures. Formula X’s Sea Glass collection is a perfect blend of sea-inspired blues that wouldn’t go amiss on any delicately poised mermaid. The polish in ‘Tide’ is a deep blue-violet with specks of silver glitter.

For something more unique, Deborah Lippmann’s Dreamweaver is a beautiful two-tonal polish that will change from teal to magenta.

Red

Nail Colours Red

A classic colour for all seasons, red nails will surely heat you up this winter. A deep ruby or bright raspberry are the perfect accessories for your sparkly gold dress.

Try Butter London’s Ruby Murray for a deeply smooth matte finish. The red wine colour oozes sophisticated finesse and will last you all through winter.

Barry M’s Ruby Slippers will have you feeling like you’re finally out of windy Kansas and on the sun-kissed yellow road of Oz. The sparkly red is perfectly appropriate for all the Christmas parties you’ll be attending.

Zoya’s Polish in Gia is a bold splash of shocking red that we absolutely adore. These bright tips with undertones of orange will gloss up any tired looking nails in an instant.

For something more luxurious, opt for Chanel’s Le Vernis collection. They do a brilliant array of reds and deep purples to suit your bold personality.

Silver

Nail Colours Grey

Another selection of hues to match the frostiness of winter are in the many shades of silver and grey, all on trend this season.

Dolce & Gabbana Intense Nail Lacquer in Baroque Silver is elegantly simple yet effective. The matte chrome look is perfect for day and night time activities, and will certainly make you stand out in the crowd.

For more traditional grey than metal, OPI’s Steel Waters Run Deep is a beautiful dark grey that offers a great understated look against your winter knits. It shines without being too shiny.

For an extra bit of sparkle, Barry M’s Classic Diamond is a brilliant shade that has enough glitter to brighten up your day.

Black

Nail Colours Black

Noir is the new black for the winter season. Whether you are looking for Coco before Chanel-esque chic, edgy rock or a mixture of both, then black is the way to go.

JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Chamonix is a deep inky shade that is high in shine for an extra glossy finish.

Alternatively, Lancôme Le Vernis Devine in Noir 29 is a stunning Limited Edition essential for your nail collection. Modern, edgy and sophisticated the black glitter uncovers tiny flecks of gold in the light.

For the classic black glossy look, Nars Iconic Colour in Black Room is a hue that Catwoman would die for. The knockout shade is slick and sexy, and perfect for any time of day.

Offering a similar finish of matte black with great shine are Burberry Beauty in Poppy Black and Barry M Classic Black.

A splash of nail lacquer is the perfect final polish for any outfit on any occasion. With these great shades and colours to experiment with, you can be sure to shine even in the bleak and icy cold.
