"Depositions of four students have already been taken"
A principal of a madrasa in Bangladesh has been arrested for allegedly raping 12 female students in Narayanganj.
Maulana Al-Amin, the accused is the son of Renu Mia of the Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla and is the founding principal and imam of Baitul Huda Cadet Madrasa.
Al-Amin has been accused of rape, attempted rape of or sexually abusing the students.
Two individual cases have been registered against Al-Amin.
One case by members of a victim’s family at Fatullah Model Police Station which is under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the second under Pornography Act by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) police force.
The officer in charge, Md Aslam Hossain, at Fatullah Model Police Station said that RAB arrested Al-Amin from Mohammadpur on July 4, 2019, accused of the sexual offences against his students at the madrasa.
RAB officers also recovered some porn videos from Al-Amin.
The RAB-11 Additional Superintendent of Police Alep Uddin told media that after initial questioning and interrogation, Al-Amin confessed to the rape and sexual assault of 12 female students.
He also admitted showing them porn videos and made porn videos using images of the girls.
Police sought 10 days of remand of Al-Amin in a petition heard by Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Kausar Ahmed on Sunday, July 7, 2019, after Al-Amin was presented to the court initially.
However, Kawsar Alam granted five days to the police for further questioning. It was confirmed that Al-Amin will also be remanded in custody for this period.
Narayanganj court Inspector Habibur Rahman said:
“The accused will be presented in court again for another remand prayer when the five-day remand is over. Depositions of four students have already been taken in this case. Seized laptop and mobile phone of the accused are now being investigated.”
On Thursday, July 4, 2019, a number of students and guardians registered complaints against Al-Amin and his alleged illicit conduct towards them, leading to a mother initiating a formal case against him.
Police and officials will now question and conduct further inquiries into the accusations of rape against principal Maulana Al-Amin and conduct a further analysis of his mobile phone and computer where obscene material was already found.
