Aspiring Actress Pearl Punjabi commits Suicide in Mumbai

Aspiring actress Pearl Punjabi allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her apartment in Mumbai.

According to reports, she jumped from the balcony of her third-floor apartment in Lokhandwala in the early hours of Friday, August 30, 2019.

She was taken to Kokilaben Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Mumbai Police have released a statement in relation to Pearl’s death.

Mumbai Police Public Relation Officer (PRO) Pranay Ashok said:

“On August 30, around 1 am a 31-year-old woman Pearl Ram Punjabi, resident of Kenwood society, Lokhandwala, committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her apartment.

“A complaint has been registered and Oshiwara Police Station is investigating the case.”

Police registered a case of accidental death and an investigation is underway.

A security guard at Pearl’s apartment had found her body after he went to investigate a series of noises he had heard.

Bipin Kumar Thakur explained: “It happened between 12:45 and 1 am. There was some noise, I thought somebody was shouting on the road.

“We went there to check what was happening. When I came back, I heard sounds from the third floor where she lived.”

Pearl Punjabi was an aspiring actress and her death has led to several reports as to why she took her own life.

It was rumoured that she had been trying to get into mainstream films for a number of years, but she had struggled to get her big break.

It was also speculated that her acting struggles took a toll on her mental health and it led to her developing a short temper.

Police officers claimed that she used to get into frequent arguments with her mother. Reportedly, her suicide was not the first time she had tried to take her life.

Pearl had attempted suicide twice but both attempts were unsuccessful.

However, the reports have been called false by members of her family, who have been left angered and hurt after hearing about the rumours.

They have released a statement telling people not to spread false stories. One of Pearl’s cousins said:

“Pearl was suffering from depression. Everything else is false, which has hurt everyone close to her.

“We would request some privacy and please allow the family to grieve.”
