Filming is now set to resume in January 2021.

It is reported that Amitabh Bachchan will be a part of the upcoming Apple TV series Shantaram.

The show is being directed by Justin Kurzel and features English actor Charlie Hunnam as the lead. Fellow Bollywood actress Radhika Apte also has a major role in the series.

It is an adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’ best-selling novel of the same name.

It tells the story of a heroin-addicted Australian bank robber who escapes prison and ends up settling in the slums of India.

In 2019, Charlie had been in India filming the series. However, a large part of the show is still yet to be filmed.

It was reported that the India part of Shantaram would be filmed in 2020, however, the global pandemic prevented that from happening.

A large part of the show will reportedly be shot in Dharavi and south Mumbai. Filming is now set to resume in January 2021.

Two of the 10 episodes were filmed before Christmas 2019 and filming was set to resume in February 2020.

Filmmakers are now looking for low-risk areas to shoot. It was also reported that it will largely be filmed outdoors instead of on a set.

While Amitabh Bachchan has not confirmed or denied a role in Shantaram, a source said that he will be playing crime lord Khader Khan.

The source said:

“Amitabh Bachchan, who was supposed to be part of Nair’s film, will be attached to the series.

“He is likely to play crime lord Khader Khan.”

It had been speculated that American-Indian filmmaker was working on a similar story with Johnny Depp playing the lead role.

However, it seems as though it failed to come to fruition.

Only time will tell if Amitabh will be in the upcoming Apple TV series.

On the work front, Amitabh was last seen in the 2020 comedy-drama Gulabo Sitabo, which also starred Ayushmann Khurrana.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film was released on Amazon Prime Video and received a mixed response from critics and the audience.

Amitabh has numerous films which are currently being filmed or in the post-production stage.

One of those is the action-fantasy film Brahmastra. It has an ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy. It is set to release on December 4, 2020.

Meanwhile, Amitabh is currently shooting the 12th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
