As a gesture of goodwill, each couple received gifts.
The Ambani family organised a ‘Samuh Vivah’ (mass wedding) for over 50 underprivileged couples from the Palghar area.
The goodwill gesture comes as part of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s upcoming wedding, which is expected to take place on July 12, 2024.
The mass wedding invitation read: “As part of the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, a Mass Wedding of the underprivileged has been organised at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024.
“Nita and Mukesh Ambani are contributing towards this noble cause and will also grace the occasion along with family.
“We would be delighted if you could join us in witnessing this Celebration of Love.”
The ceremony took place at the Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai and saw nearly 800 people in attendance.
This included family members of the couples, local social workers and community representatives.
The event began with traditional fervour and a profound message of service to humanity.
Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani were accompanied by their family members – son Akash Ambani with wife Shloka Mehta, and daughter Isha Ambani with husband Anand Piramal.
At the event, the Ambani family personally congratulated each couple.
As a gesture of goodwill, each couple received gifts.
At the mass wedding, every bride received gold ornaments such as Mangalsutra, wedding rings and nose rings, along with silver items like toe rings and anklets.
Each bride also received a cheque worth Rs. 1.01 Lakh (£950) as her ‘streedhan’, symbolising her personal assets.
Additionally, the couples were provided with essential grocery and household items for a year, along with appliances and bedding essentials.
Following the wedding ceremony, attendees were treated to a grand dinner, fostering an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie among all present.
Highlighting the cultural richness of the occasion, the ceremony featured the traditional Tarpa Dance performed by the Warli Tribe.
Nita Ambani said: “I feel extremely happy seeing the newlywed couples here… I give my blessing to all these couples.
“The ‘Shubh-lagna’ ceremonies of Anant and Radhika begin today with today’s mass wedding event.”
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding is expected to be an extremely grand affair.
The pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar featured performances by Rihanna and Akon, while during the cruise celebrations, Katy Perry, Pitbull and Andrea Bocelli delighted the guests.
It is rumoured that the likes of Adele, Drake and Lana Del Rey will perform at their upcoming Mumbai wedding.
