Aishwarya Rai is rumoured to take on Tabu’s role in the Tamil remake of Andhadhun.

The original was released in 2018 and starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte and Tabu.

The film saw Ayushmann play a blind pianist who unwittingly becomes embroiled in the murder of a former film actor.

Ayushmann’s performance saw him win a National Award in 2019 for ‘Best Actor’.

It was a hit at the box office and now, the film will see a Tamil remake.

The casting process has intrigued film fans and it is heavily speculated that Aishwarya will be part of the film.

According to reports, Aishwarya will take on Tabu’s negative role of Simi Sinha.

Producer Thiagarajan has stated that Aishwarya is well-suited to the role and has claimed that he has already spoken about the film with the actress.

He said: “We are in talks with Aishwarya Rai. However, she is yet to sign the project.”

Tamil actor Prashanth is the son of Thiagarajan. He has been cast as the lead role.

According to reports, Prashanth has lost nearly 23 kilograms in order to get into the role.

It was also rumoured that veteran actor Karthik and comedian Yogi Babu will play key roles in the film.

While Karthik’s character has not been finalised yet, Yogi Babu will be seen playing an auto driver. An official announcement regarding the cast is set to take place soon.

The Tamil remake was set to be directed by Mohan Raj, however, now it looks like he was replaced with JJ Fredrick, who is known for directing the 2020 film Ponmagal Vandhal.

If the rumours are true, it will mark Aishwarya’s return to Tamil films. Many of her films at the start of her acting career were Tamil.

It will also see the actress reunite with Prashanth. The two acted together in the 1998 film Jeans.

At the time, the film was the most expensive film to be made in Indian cinema. The film also received widespread acclaim.

Filming of the Tamil remake of Andhadhun will begin during the first week of December 2020. The filmmakers are planning to release the movie sometime in 2021.

In addition, Aishwarya Rai will be in the upcoming historical drama Ponniyin Selvan. She will reunite with director Mani Ratnam.

The pair worked together in the 2010 film Raavan, which also starred Aishwarya’s husband Abhishek Bachchan.
