"They got a novice to make an AI-based film."
The creator of the iconic Pakistani television series Ainak Wala Jin has come out strongly against a new AI-generated film based on his work.
Hafeez Tahir is furious after an AI-generated Ainak Wala Jin movie was released in cinemas without his knowledge.
The film, touted on IMDB as Asia’s first AI-generated feature-length film, was released in Pakistani cinemas on July 24, 2026.
It was directed and written by Farhan Khan, who Tahir alleges never sought his permission before undertaking the project.
Tahir called the release “daylight robbery” and made clear that the original series was entirely his concept and creative vision.
The beloved Ainak Wala Jin originally ran on PTV from 1993 to 1996 and became one of Pakistan’s most cherished television productions.
He said: “I am the concept writer; I named it, directed it and created a good quality serial, gave it to PTV and they made millions off it.
“If you go to their YouTube page, it still makes millions for the channel.”
His words underlined that the original work continues to generate significant revenue for PTV decades after it first aired on television.
Tahir expressed deep frustration that neither the film’s director nor PTV approached him to be part of the new production.
He alleged that an inexperienced filmmaker was handed his iconic idea and proceeded to make a mess of everything it represented.
“They got a novice to make an AI-based film and made a mess of my iconic idea.”
He was particularly vocal about the drastic changes made to the appearance and voices of the original series and characters.
“My main character, Nastoor Jin, looks like a daku, and Hamoon Jadoogar’s face has been ruined.
“The voices have been ruined.”
He further alleged that AI-generated music had been created and added to the film, which he described as falling well below acceptable standards.
His criticism of the film was comprehensive, covering visuals, voices, music and the overall treatment of his original creative work.
Hafeez Tahir summed up his feelings about the production by saying:
“They have taken a great and beautiful idea and destroyed it.”
“Should I just wail about it and remain silent or do I take the legal route?”
The question left the door open for possible legal action against both the film’s director and PTV over the unauthorised use.
The original Ainak Wala Jin holds an extraordinarily special place in the memories of generations of Pakistani viewers who grew up watching the show.
