“It’s an action movie, with a little bit of culture in it as well.”
Agent Vinod, Siriram Raghavan’s highly exhilarating spy action thriller is one of Bollywood’s most anticipated films of the year. It’s all geared up to hit the screens for a worldwide release on the 23rd March. Directed by Raghavan and produced under the banner of Saif’s production house, Illuminati Films, the film approaches Bollywood spying ‘Bond’ style.
The film features stars, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Ravi Kissen and debuting her first Bollywood film is the South-African model Ann Lee Roberts. With the vastly visualising trailers, captivating posters and the eccentric edgy songs, it’s already looking very promising.
The film has all the ingredients for a blockbuster hit, and seeing the iconic jodi Saif and Kareena blazing up the screen, is just another reason why this movie is a must watch. This will be Saif’s second ambitious project, after his debut hit production ‘Love Aaj Kal,’ he’s quite keen to raise the stakes.
Saif, who’s playing the lead Agent Vinod, will be seen like never before. The slick, stylish agent, will be on a long adventurous spy mission to investigate and discover why his colleague was murdered. Although the plot may seem dark and mysterious, his character is said to be light hearted at times and have a quirky sense of humour. In a recent interview Raghavan said: “As far as AGENT VINOD is concerned, he is a spy, who can be charming one moment and lethal the next.”
It may have the same title as the 1977 ‘Agent Vinod,’ however, according to Director Siriram Raghavan, it’s not a remake, but a rollercoaster full of action and thrills!
Even though the character of Agent Vinod has been inspired by the likes of James Bond, Jason Bourne and even ‘Tin Tin’, the Indian agent said that this spy is very unique in his own way with a diverse personality. He also revealed he carried out most of the stunts himself which caused a few injuries, but hope it will be worth it. Saif said:
“It was incredibly demanding physically, given that there was plenty of wirework besides the regular stunts. In fact I hurt myself quite a few times during the shoot, but that made it more special.”
His real-life partner and co-star Kareena Kapoor, is playing a Pakistani character in the film, Dr Iram Parveen Billal. Playing an action ‘Lara Croft’ type character, we’ll also be seeing her do a few stunts or two. Bollywood’s most successful Actress, Kapoor, will be doing Mujra for the very first time. The song ‘Dil Mera Muft’ is a very unusual Mujra song. Pritam the producer has gone on to say that it’s not a typical traditional Mujra number.
With a catchy rock metal and fusion mixed sound, it’s a creative choice and the one to look out for. Saroj Khan, who choreographed ‘Dil Mera Muft’ pushed Kareena to the limits and took out the best possible performance she could.
The actress lights the screen with her stunning, glowing beauty and appears to be a natural at classical dancing. She believes this is going to be one her best songs in her career. With the most talked about song and performance, Kapoor went on to compliment her guru, Saroj Khan: “She’s so absolutely amazing, she’s made me look beautiful.”
Saif as a producer was also very impressed with Kareena’s performance and was delighted that it was a Mujra. He thought it was an appropriate pre-climaxed song which fits in perfectly with the film. Saif: “It’s an action movie, with a little bit of culture in it as well.”
The music in Agent Vinod is a huge attribute, as it delivers a great commendation to the action flick. It’s produced by Pritam Chakraborty, who has a record of massive chartbusters. After his recent composed songs from films like Bodyguard, Players and Desi Boyz, he’s sure to top the charts once again.
The songs are in no doubt to acquire to everyone’s taste. To name just a few, It features the official remake of the Euro pop ‘Rasputin’ by Bonny M named ‘I‘ll do the talking‘, a Mujra number with a twist titled ‘Dil Mera Muft,’ the peculiar comical track ‘Pungi,’ and Pritam’s signature genre, a soft and moving romantic number ‘Raabta.’
Recently, actors have been going that extra mile to ensure their film gets the maximum publicity it needs. Agent Vinod is certainly no different. Upon it’s release, the leading cast and Director will tour across 12 major cities within India.
Also, exclusively for the first time ever, the film will première at the 7th edition of the Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) in Oman. The prominent stars, Saif and Kareena will be attending the event to represent the film. The MIFF seem very excited to be premièring the first Bollywood film ever to be shown at this festival.
MIFF chairman, Dr Khalid Al Zadjali revealed: “For Oman, it is the first ever movie premiere and it will be great to have movie stars like Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in town for the MIFF.”
But it doesn‘t stop there, Raghavan recently enlightened that they will be releasing a graphic novel as well as a PlayStation game and a mobile app game to engage younger audiences! Strategic marketing is all part of the promotion.
Additional hype has been created by South African model, Ann Lee Roberts, who makes her Bollywood debut in Agent Vinod. Signed by Saif especially for the movie, she’s promoting the film with topless images on various social networking sites to attract the attention of audiences.
However, many wonder if recent headlines concerning Saif having a punch-up with South-African businessman, Iqbal Sharma, in a restaurant in Mumbai, is part of the plan? It’s alleged it was due to the businessman requesting Khan and his group of friends which also includes his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, to keep the noise levels down whilst having dinner. Khan interfered which led to the brawl, leaving Sharma with a broken nose.
The release date changed from December to March due to delayed schedules. But with the première around the corner and the promos already getting relatively positive feedback, the cast of Agent Vinod seem to be highly confident. Kareena Kapoor said in a recent interview:
“The delayed release works for us because we’ve had a breather since RA.One, Mission Impossible IV and Don 2 that released last year and the audience is now ready for the adrenaline rush of another thriller. And I’m confident I’ll make the best pair with Saif this year.”
The film is said to be both the Director and producer’s most ambitious film to date. With a high buzz around the theatrical trailers and enchanting songs, the anticipation for the film is popularising by the day. Let’s hope Agent Vinod meets audience expectations with Saif as a different kind of spy!
