Adam Azim calls Dalton Smith 'Not That Good' after TKO Win f

"Dalton Smith, you'd better be watching mate"

After recording his biggest win to date, Adam Azim has insisted that he is better than Dalton Smith, setting up a potential domestic bout in the future.

Azim delivered a statement performance against Sergey Lipinets on February 1, 2025, stopping the former world champion in the ninth round.

Both he and Smith are undefeated in their professional boxing careers.

After Smith claimed continental honours, it was Azim’s turn to showcase his credentials against the tough Kazakh opponent.

Lipinets was expected to provide a stern challenge but Azim dominated before eventually winning the fight in the ninth round.

Azim is now eyeing bigger fights, including potential world title opportunities. However, his attention was firmly on Smith when speaking after the fight.

The 22-year-old said: “I’ll fight whoever my team suggest, but do you know what, Dalton Smith, you’d better be watching mate – because you ain’t that good, my friend.

“The guy you’ve been fighting in your last fight, he ain’t all that. Trust me, I’m coming baby.

“It’s still marinating, but when I do fight him, I’m going to teach him a lesson.”

Azim’s victory over Lipinets was his best to date.

Lipinets, a former IBF super-lightweight champion, was expected to test the Slough fighter, but Azim outclassed him.

Lipinets pressed forward early, yet Azim evaded his attacks and responded with sharp counterpunches.

A short left hook floored Lipinets in the third round. Azim then rocked him at the end of the eighth before finishing the contest with a fast flurry in the ninth.

The win was impressive, though it was not without controversy.

Azim landed four low blows, prompting referee Steve Gray to deduct two points.

After an early warning in round two, Azim struck Lipinets low in the fourth, sending him to his knees.

Gray took a point away and did so again after further infractions in rounds five and seven. Lipinets retaliated with a low blow of his own in the eighth.

Speaking after the fight, Azim acknowledged the deductions:

“The first knockdown, I didn’t know I hit him. I had to be patient.”

“To be world-class, you have to be patient. He’s a very big puncher and I’ve got so much respect for him.

“He was going really low, I couldn’t see where his belt was, he was small, and it was so hard for me to place the shot.”

Trainer Shane McGuigan also had words of warning, as Adam Azim added:

“But I had to stop them, Shane said ‘If you do that again, I’ll make you do 100 burpees in the gym’.

“I was working on inside fighting with Shane in the gym. It’s really hard to see Lipinets go like that.”

The win takes Adam Azim’s professional record to 13-0 and his focus now shifts to potential world title bouts.

He and Smith have traded verbal barbs with each other so a future clash may now be on the cards.
