Aamir Khan reflects on QSQT during 'Srikanth' Event -f

"It was a very exciting journey."

During an event for the upcoming film Srikanth, Aamir Khan reflected on memories of his first film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988).

The occasion was the launch of one of the songs. The track in question is a reboot of the classic chartbuster ‘Papa Kehte Hain’.

Papa Kehte Hain‘ was originally from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. It was picturised on Aamir.

The number was sung by Udit Narayan, who also attended the Srikanth event.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was a huge blockbuster when it was released. It also starred Juhi Chawla.

It was directed by Aamir’s cousin Mansoor Khan and produced by his uncle Nasir Hussain.

Anand-Milind composed the music while Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote the lyrics.

Alka Yagnik was the female playback singer in most of the songs.

Delving into memories of his debut film, Aamir Khan said: “We had no clue that we would succeed or not.

“Whenever me and Mansoor saw the film, we used to pick up on the flaws and we used to be involved in discussions.

“It was a very exciting journey to see the kind of love it received.

“I like to believe that Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was a milestone in Hindi Cinema that changed the whole sensibility of Indian cinema.

“From 1988 onwards, you can see the shift happening.

“I think Mansoor is probably the first director to bring that. So, it’s a very special film for me in every way.”

Aamir also spoke about the adaptation of ‘Papa Kehte Hain’:

“This song actually started my career. It’s very special.

“When we were making this film, the kind of support Nasir sir gave us, Mansoor was making his first film.

“All of us were very new. Kiran Deohans, our DOP, Anand-Milind, Juhi, Udit Ji and Alka Ji, we were all starting our careers.

“It was a very exciting journey. I am remembering Nasir Sahab, Mansoor, Anand-Milind, Majrooh Sahab, who wrote this song.

“I had a lot of fun listening to both the songs, ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ and ‘Ae Mere Humsafar‘. They are beautiful songs.

“The team has sung well and thank you so much as it was really walking down memory lane for me and Udit.

“Even after 35-36 years, this song touches our heart and evokes wonderful emotions in us.”

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak put Udit Narayan firmly into the league of renowned Bollywood playback singers.

The film also kicked off the evergreen actor-singer combination of Aamir Khan and Udit Narayan.

Udit has sung over 50 songs for Aamir in his career.

Speaking about the song, Udit remarked: “This song took us back 36 years.

“I still remember when we were supposed to do this song, Aamir was sitting in front of me and I was told that I had to sing for this hero.

“I was scared as I thought if I do not sing this song well then, I will have to pack my bags and leave the town.

“But thank God and all the blessings. This song and music left a mark on everyone’s heart.”

Srikanth is a biopic industrialist Srikanth Bholla, who despite his visual impairment, founded Bollant Industries.

Srikanth Bolla added: “What a lovely song it is and I have no words to express how Udit sir has sung in the past and Aamir sir being with us, I have no words to express.”

Starring Rajkummar Rao, Jyothika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar, Srikanth is scheduled to be released on May 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan will next be seen in Sitaare Zameen Par.
