"He has asked Zoya to develop the story."
It is reported that Aamir Khan could be set to collaborate with filmmaker Zoya Akhtar.
Zoya and Aamir have reportedly met to discuss the new project.
A source told Pinkvilla: “Zoya is working on the idea of a slice-of-life film with a middle-aged protagonist.
“Much like all her films, this one too is a light-hearted subject with drama and emotions.
“While the story and concept draft is ready, the filmmaker is yet to spin that into the screenplay format.
“However, Aamir is a perfectionist and will never commit to a film based on just the idea.
“He has asked Zoya to develop the story and come back for a narration.
“Aamir has also asked Zoya to reach out to him or his team for inputs, whenever she stuck through the writing process.”
Zoya is a key contributor to Excel Entertainment, which is headed by her brother Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
The relationship between Excel and Aamir Khan goes a long way.
Aamir was a part of Farhan’s directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai (2001), in which he played Akash Malhotra.
He went on to collaborate with the company when he made a guest appearance in Zoya’s directorial debut Luck By Chance (2009).
The actor also jointly produced as well as starred in Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012). The suspense film was directed by Reema Kagti and was co-produced by Farhan.
Aamir also provided voiceover in Zoya’s Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).
If the untitled project goes ahead, the new collaboration between Aamir and Zoya will reportedly be co-produced by Tiger Baby and Aamir Khan Productions.
Speaking of her bond with Aamir, Zoya revealed:
“Aamir is someone I’ve known for years.
“Both Reema Kagti and I’ve worked with him as assistant directors. I take all my scripts to him for consultation.
“He is very sharp and honest and he understands the commercial language.”
Zoya also admitted that Aamir helped her convince Anil Kapoor to play the part of Kamal Mehra in Dil Dhadakne Do.
On the work front, Zoya Akhtar last directed The Archies (2023). She also wrote and produced Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023).
She also co-wrote the screenplay of Jee Le Zaraa, but that film is yet to go on floors.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is currently filming Sitaare Zameen Par and is producing Lahore, 1947.
