Jay Sean won four awards
The Royal Festival Hall hosted the British Asian Awards on 11th March 2010. A night filled with the glitz, glam and buzz featuring popular Brit-Asian performers, winners of awards and an air of a proud industry still going strong despite the tough times.
DESIblitz met up with many of the artists from the Brit-Asian music scene at the event learning all the news and gossip from the show.
Performances by Malkit Singh, Sugababes, Mumzy, Imran Khan, Jaz Dhami, Talvin Singh, Surinder Rattan and RDB, include some of the top names that took the stage to entertain the British Asian musicians, singers, producers, artist management and DJ’s all in the audience.
Imran Khan appeared on stage with a live snake and Talvin Singh smashed it on stage with an incredible live tabla solo. Jay Sean showed that he was back home after going around the world and making it big in the US. He had a rapturous come welcome from the Brit-Asian crowd.
Jay Sean won four awards for Best Album, Best Male, Best Urban Act and Best Video. Amar (daughter of Mangal Singh) won the Best Female, Imran Khan won Best Desi Act and Best Newcomer was JK.
The night enjoyed by all shows the variety of talent and versatility of artists from the British Asian Music fraternity. From Bhangra to Urban, and from Bollywood to Underground, there’s sound to suit all musical tastes. The event celebrates the strong music culture of British Asians in the UK and abroad.
