Since being released on YouTube, Zindagi Tamasha has gained immense love and admiration, with some calling it a masterpiece.

The film’s release was not an easy journey and Sarmad Khoosat finally decided he would not wait any longer, taking the brave decision to upload his movie on YouTube.

Zindagi Tamasha was set to be released in cinemas in 2022, but due to controversy relating to the film and its storyline, it was put on hold and then banned as a consequence.

The ban was based on the portrayal of certain characters and it was deemed inappropriate for release.

However, since being released on YouTube on August 4, 2023, Zindagi Tamasha has clocked much praise and recognition, with film fanatics questioning what the issue was with the movie hitting the big screen.

One fan took to Twitter and said: “Watched Zindagi Tamasha, a film banned in Pakistan.

“The film truly depicts the religious-hypocritic standards of the typical Pakistani urban society.

“Wondering what the hell made the justification to ban the film?”

Another comment read: “Halfway into Zindagi Tamasha, and the constant heartache I’m feeling is just beyond.

“I knew it, Sarmad Khoosat productions never disappoint in terms of content, quality and production.”

Questioning the controversy, one film fanatic asked:

“Why was there all this fuss and controversy around it?

“I just watched Zindagi Tamasha, and truly it’s thought-provoking and heart-touching.

“It’s a journey of a man who lives a simple life and one harmless interest of his triggers the ‘perfect’ maulvis [clerics] of our society.”

The film has been called brilliant and filmmaker Sarmad Khoosat was applauded for his bravery in highlighting sensitive subjects, even though he was faced with a lot of negativity for doing so.

Zindagi Tamasha revolves around the story of a religious poet and respected member of his society, Rahat Khawaja, who goes to attend the wedding of his friend’s son.

He finds himself in trouble after he is recorded dancing. Trouble brews when the recording becomes viral.

The movie boasts an impressive cast, featuring names such as Arif Hassan, Eman Suleman, Samiya Mumtaz and Ali Kureshi.

Although the film faced many struggles, it bagged recognition internationally and won the Snow Leopard Award for Best Film at the 6th Asian World Film Festival (AWFF).
