"Does it ever drive you crazy / Just how fast the night changes?"

How many times can you mend a broken heart? One too many for the loyal fans of Zayn Malik around the world, as the former boyband star removes ‘1D’ from his Twitter name.

Though One Direction officially announced Zayn’s departure from the wildly popular boyband at the end of March 2015, hopes of his return have been very much alive among fans.

When Zayn tweeted after The Asian Awards in late April 2015 as ‘zaynmalik1D’, many saw this as a sign of a possible U-turn.

However, he has once again sent his fans on a painful rollercoaster ride, by changing his profile to just ‘zaynmalik’.

His fans around the world are hurting, as a new trend begins to dominate Twitter and Facebook in the early hours of May 1, 2015.

Many are expressing their heartbreaks on the latest Zayn trend – #YouWillAlwaysBeZaynMalik1D.

Others are quoting lyrics of one of the band’s recent hits, ‘Night Changes’, to convey their miseries.

It has been over a month since Zayn left the band, so it appears to make sense that he should no longer be known as part of One Direction.

But many fans feel he may be distancing himself from the band a bit too much, as they notice Zayn has unfollowed his former bandmates on Twitter.

It has been a tumultuous couple of months for millions of young girls who have shown immense support for the band over the years.

Zayn’s exit from the band and leak of his solo demo track have truly rocked them to the core.

With rumours flying around of a solo career in music and film, his most loyal supporters remain hopeful that Zayn will not disappear from the paparazzi’s prying eyes completely.

Or will he now begin a new life as ‘a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight’?
