"it will be released on December 23"
According to reports, The Legend of Maula Jatt is set to be released in India too.
Reports have suggested that the film is set to release on December 23, 2022.
But if that is the case, it will clash with director Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role.
A source said: “Zee Studios is backing the film and trying its best to release it in India.
“Next week it will be clear whether the film will reach the cinema halls of India or not and whether it will be released on December 23 or on some other date.”
It is not yet certain that the box office hit will make it to screens in India.
Whilst the film has created a lot of buzz across the world, some believe that India would not give the film much attention.
A Reddit user commented: “Why would a Pak movie compete with Ranveer’s film in India? Kuch bhi!”
Another Reddit user said: “Even if it gets released here, it’s still a Punjabi film, it may perform in Punjab and in other states where there is a sizable Punjabi population but in most of the Hindi belt, there is no competition.
“Not to mention, all the drama that would happen due to which it will probably not get a lot of screens.
“No big distributor would get involved due to boycotts and other drama.”
In 2016, after the terrorist attack on the Indian Army Headquarters in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association banned Pakistani actors.
After the Pulwama attack in 2019, the Indian Cine Workers Association also officially banned Pakistani artists from working in India, which is still in place today.
It will be interesting to see if the reports of the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India prove to be correct – what reactions can we expect from movie enthusiasts in India?
The Legend of Maula Jatt has proved to be a huge success for the Pakistani film industry, not just in the home market of Pakistan but also overseas.
It was released on October 13, 2022, and it has crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark at the worldwide box office.
It is the first film from Pakistan to achieve this status.
Meanwhile, Cirkus will see Ranveer Singh play a dual role. It will also star Varun Sharma, Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez.
