Who is 'Dirty Harry' & Why does Imran Khan 'Fear' Him f

He currently serves as the Director-General of Counter Intelligence.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested on corruption charges, a moment he had successfully avoided for several months.

Previous attempts had ended in near misses.

In March 2023, a court order to detain him was thwarted by pitched battles between his supporters and police outside his home in Lahore.

But during a court appearance in Islamabad, Khan was arrested by Pakistani Rangers.

The dramatic arrest has led to unrest across the country, with violent clashes between police and his supporters.

The violence has seen at least nine deaths and dozens of injuries.

Hours before his arrest, Imran Khan posted a video message where a blamed a person named ‘Dirty Harry’ for plotting to kill him.

Khan said that if something were to happen to him, ‘Dirty Harry’ would be to blame and “not terrorists or foreign agencies”.

But who is this person that Imran Khan supposedly fears?

The man known as ‘Dirty Harry’ is Major-General Faisal Naseer, a senior officer of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

He currently serves as the Director-General of Counter Intelligence.

Naseer is considered to be one of the top generals in the Pakistani forces and is the recipient of various awards, including the Tamgha-i-Basalat and Hilal-e-Shujaat.

Naseer has played an important role in Pakistan’s war on terror.

He is also responsible for the political unit of the ISI and domestic security.

He is the son of renowned author Shamma Khalid.

Imran Khan has claimed that Faisal Naseer is responsible for several attempts on his life, including one in November 2022.

He also alleged that Naseer was involved in the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif, who was shot dead in Kenya.

According to Kenyan journalist Brian Obuya, Sharif was “wanted” by “top officials in Pakistan”.

In October 2022, he said: “After running into exile in Dubai, Arshad would later travel to Kenya, sources saying he had been ‘traced there’ only to be ‘mistakenly’ killed in Kenya.”

Another allegation made by Imran Khan is that Naseer was involved in the torture of PTI politician Azam Khan Swati.

At a rally in Lahore, Khan said: “Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Major-General Faisal Naseer tried to kill me twice.

“He is also involved in the killing of Arshad Sharif.

“He also stripped my party Senator Azam Swati naked and inflicted severe torture on him.”

Khan’s accusations were refuted by the Pakistani Army, calling them “highly irresponsible and baseless”. The army also warned him of legal action.

The army also said that Khan’s accusations were part of a “consistent pattern” of targeting military and intelligence officials with “sensational propaganda” for political gain.

Imran Khan remains in police custody while unrest continues to erupt across Pakistan.
