“When I was married we were having problems"
Faryal Mehmood appeared on the FHM Podcast and detailed the breakdown of her marriage with Daniyal Raheel.
She candidly spoke to Adnan Faisal and said divorce should not be considered the end of the road for anyone.
Adnan started the conversation by saying in Pakistani society, being a divorcee was understood to be bad, and that people need to understand it isn’t a crime.
Faryal questioned if it still happened and Adnan said that it did.
Faryal went on to say: “It is a difficult one because men think this, women do not.
“Fathers tell their married daughters that their destination from their marital home is the cemetery.
“How dare they say that to someone they have bought into the world?”
Adnan explained that it was believed that if a daughter came back divorced then only bad things would happen to her.
Faryal replied: “What will happen to her? Nothing bad happens.
“If anything she gets the chance to live life again and we all deserve another chance, don’t we?
“You want her to spend a gift that has been given to her, her entire life serving others and being in a relationship that she is not happy in?”
Faryal became seemingly emotional as she continued:
“Because we are women and we are mothers, we don’t want to leave our children.
“So we are stuck with the same man because he is providing for us and he is doing whatever he wants to do.
“We just have to make sure that our children are okay and they have a good life.
“This is a difficult responsibility given to women. They spend their life dedicating it to others, they do not live their own life.”
Faryal Mehmood delved into her own marriage and said:
“When I was married we were having problems and I was mentally disturbed.”
Adnan questioned if she was being mentally abused, and Faryal admitted that it went both ways.
“I used to abuse him as well, it was not just him. But I used to go back to him because I loved him so much.”
“I will never say to a woman you keep going back to an abusive marriage.
“I understand, I completely understand, when you’re in love you’re in love.”
After Raqeeb Se, Faryal Mehmood took a break from acting.
It was during this time her marriage had broken down and she decided to go travelling alone.
Faryal’s appearance on the podcast was met with mixed reactions.
One individual wrote: “I used to like her a lot. She was married into an educated family, and she earned respect and love but nothing worked for her.
“She left it all for a trashy life. Sorry, but I have no respect or empathy for her.”
Another said: “Is it just me or does anyone else feel that she has some sort of mental and emotional trauma? She doesn’t seem normal.”
