"My character is not purely right or wrong."
Critically acclaimed Tamil film Sirai is set to premiere digitally on ZEE5 Global on January 23, 2026, bringing its powerful courtroom drama to worldwide audiences.
The announcement comes as Tamil ZEE5 continues to expand its regional slate, following successful original series, films, and its recent Pongal brand film featuring Jiiva and Andrea Jeremiah.
Directed by debutant Suresh Rajakumari, Sirai is a crime courtroom drama built on a screenplay co-written with Tamizh, who also developed the story.
The film is produced by S.S. Lalit Kumar under the Seven Screen Studio banner, a production house known for backing content-driven Tamil cinema.
Sirai stars Vikram Prabhu, L.K. Akshay Kumar, Anishma Anilkumar and Anantha Thambirajah in pivotal roles, with each character driving the film’s moral and emotional complexity.
The project marks L.K. Akshay Kumar’s acting debut and reunites Vikram Prabhu and Tamizh after their earlier collaboration on Tamizh’s directorial debut.
At its core, the film follows a conscientious police officer navigating systemic challenges during a high-stakes escort mission that escalates into intense courtroom confrontations.
The narrative blends emotional depth with moral dilemmas, using the legal drama format to explore power, responsibility and institutional conflict.
Speaking about the digital premiere, Vikram Prabhu described Sirai as one of the most emotionally intense films of his career.
“Sirai is one of the most emotionally intense films I’ve been a part of,” he said, reflecting on portraying a man bound by duty yet questioning the system he serves.
He added that streaming on Tamil ZEE5 allows the story to reach a much wider audience across regions, creating an instant and meaningful connection through OTT.
Discussing his debut role, L.K. Akshay Kumar highlighted the film’s moral ambiguity and its impact on him as an actor.
“This film challenged me because my character is not purely right or wrong,” he shared, emphasising the grey spaces shaped by circumstances and choices.
Akshay Kumar also expressed joy at debuting on a platform he believes values strong, content-driven cinema like Sirai.
With its grounded storytelling, layered characters and socially relevant themes, Sirai is being positioned as one of the standout Tamil releases of early 2026.
The film will premiere exclusively on ZEE5 Global on January 23, 2026, making it accessible to Tamil audiences worldwide.
