“I am liaising with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and understand that the matter is being handled by their murder and manslaughter team. I am expecting updates.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said:

“Our staff are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Jhelum, and are in contact with the Pakistani police”.

Councillor Hussain Akhtar represents the Shear Brow and Corporation Park ward spoke about the incident:

“I have heard the person lives in Little Harwood.

“I was very shocked when I heard about it and I feel for the family.

“I hope that the British ambassador is intervening and trying to get justice.

“The community is in shock and I have heard he owned a takeaway.”

Lancashire Telegraph reported that Mr Hussain’s sister Nazia Khauser demanded justice on BBC Radio Lancashire:

“My family is in a big shock because if you see my brother’s pictures, he is so innocent.

“Everybody’s crying their eyes out, and I still can’t imagine I’ve lost my baby, he was my baby, he was my brother.”

She went on to say that the family were planning the businessman’s wedding.

“We were planning his wedding next year. Everyone loved him.

“At the moment [the] family are in shock and everyone is crying. He was my baby, my brother.

“We need justice, he was so young and beautiful.”

A news report is believed to have shown the brother of the businessman demanding justice.

“He has been attacked for no reason. He was such a lovely guy.

“He was an educated person, he was a degree holder, he was a businessman, he is a brother, he is a son and a brother-in-law.

“Somebody murdered him so brutally. We demand justice for him, we just want justice for him please.”
