"I thought anyone can repent after making a mistake."

Suneel Darshan spoke about his feud with Sunny Deol, revealing that he and the actor have been embroiled in a legal battle that has gone on for over 25 years.

The filmmaker said the feud stemmed from the release of Ajay in 1996.

Sunny starred in the film while Suneel was the director.

Suneel claimed that Sunny left the film incomplete and refused to film the ending. He went on to allege that the film was released without an ending.

Even though the film was moderately successful at the box office, the pair became embroiled in a legal battle.

Stating that the actor has “a massive ego”, Suneel said:

“Sunny Deol had a massive ego. 26 years later, my litigation with him is still on.

“First, he promised to return the money. Then he said he had no money so I must make a film with him.

“There was a retired Chief Justice of India, Justice Bharucha, before whom this matter was put.

“Sunny said he didn’t have the liquidity to return my amount so he would do a film for me.

“I was working with his brother (Bobby Deol), and did three movies with him back-to-back. I had no grudges with him.

“I thought anyone can repent after making a mistake. But, he fooled me.”

The filmmaker explained that Sunny Deol repeatedly postponed filming dates and the period mentioned in their contract eventually passed.

This gave Suneel no choice but to have his lawyers send Sunny a legal notice. In response, Sunny’s legal team replied, saying that the actor had not yet approved of the film’s script.

Suneel Darshan continued: “I was not supposed to get the dialogue approved by him.

“Has any actor ever approved dialogue? The intention was wrong, which was excruciating.”

“A lot of money was involved and a lot of time. Then he took me on a long goose chase, which is still on. You know the legal system.”

Suneel Darshan went on to work with Sunny’s brother Bobby Deol in three films.

Suneel’s last directorial venture was Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha, which was released in 2017. The film starred Shiv Darshan and Natasha Fernandez.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol was last seen in Chup: Revenge of the Artist. He has a number of films in the pipeline, including Gadar 2.
