Singer San2 Jailed for Sexual Assault

Talented British Asian singer, San2, real name Dhanraj Singh, has been jailed after sexually assaulting a young woman in the back of a taxi on April 1, 2014.

British Asian singer, San2 has been jailed for nine months after sexually assaulting a young woman in the back of his taxi.

The chart-topping musician, who is a taxi driver by day in his hometown of Nottingham, reportedly assaulted the woman while dropping her home on April 1, 2014.

Details of the assault state that San2, real name Dhanraj Singh, kissed her and touched her inappropriately, against her will.

Pressing charges against the star, the young victim, who had been drunk at the time, admitted that she was still suffering from the effects of the attack and needed counselling.

In court on October 28, 2014, Judge Gregory Dickinson said: “You are a talented, award-winning musician. You have put all of that in jeopardy.

“You were responsible for her safety and well-being. You took advantage of a lone female passenger who had been drinking.”

Defence Lawyer Mark Achurch said on behalf of Singh: “He is a family man with two children who had been working anti-social hours to support his family.

“It was a short-lived incident. He lost his taxi driver’s licence immediately and has been out of work and on benefits since.”

San2 first rose to musical fame with his debut song ‘Nayo Lagda’, a qawwali track that displays his immense vocal range. Released on April 4, 2013, the song reached number 1 in the Asian music charts. He also won the Best Newcomer award at the 2013 Brit Asia Music Awards.

Described as having a soulful, urban sound, the singer also released ‘Gal Sunja’ on August 14, 2014. The star also recently performed live at the Brit Asia Music Awards on October 4, 2014.

Reaction in the music industry to the unexpected news has been one of shock. Many believe that the talented singer has now tarnished what was only the beginning of a very promising music career.

Fans of the singer have also been reacting to the news on Twitter, with many still in disbelief.

San2 has now also been dropped from his management company, Media Moguls. In a statement from the Media and PR Agency, director Raj Ghai said:

“I have recently been made aware of certain allegations against the music artist San2.

“Having worked with him over the past couple of years it was a great surprise to me when the allegations surfaced.

“At the present time I have still not had any formal comment from him or his family. However, I cannot take these allegations lightly and have decided with immediate effect to terminate my professional relationship with him.

“My personal investment in both time and money has been substantial – and I have much to lose –but nevertheless I have no alternative other than to disassociate myself and my companies from him.”

Singh is the second taxi driver in October 2014 to have been jailed for sexual assault, the first was imprisoned for assaulting a young girl by the Nottingham Crown Court. The city council has ensured that it is doing its best to regulate taxi services and make them as safe as possible.

24-year-old San2, who is married and has two children, will now spend the next next nine months behind bars.
