Popular singer Sidhu Moose Wala has been booked after he and some police officers were seen at a shooting range. This came a day after he was booked for breaching the lockdown rules.

The incident was captured on video and it soon circulated on social media.

It showed Moose Wala with some friends and officers at a shooting range in Ladda Kothi, Sangrur. Reportedly, the officers were showing him how to fire an assault rifle.

Police soon found out about the video and booked Moose Wala. They also suspended six officers and booked five of them.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Garg said:

“We have registered an FIR against Moose Wala, Karam Singh Lehal, Inder Singh Grewal and Jang Sher Singh, along with some cops who took him to the shooting range.”

The officers were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspectors Balkar Singh, Antarjit Singh and Ram Singh, Head Constable Gurjinder Singh and Constables Jasbir Singh and Harwinder Singh.

SSP Garg explained that the officers were deployed at the Sangrur Deputy Superintendent of Police’s office.

He said: “Six police personnel, who assisted the singer, have been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against them.

“I have suspended them and a detailed report has been sent to the Director-General of Police’s office.”

An eyewitness named Karmjit Singh explained that the controversial singer turned up near his farm with around 25 friends and 10 police officers.

They decided to fire the weapon on the field.

Moose Wala fired approximately 24 bullets from the service rifle in front of the police.

Mr Singh initially did not inform the police because they were with the singer. He alleged that Moose Wala shot beer bottles after they were thrown into the air.

SSP Garg revealed that the incident took place on May 1, 2020.

A case was registered under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act has been registered against the accused.

SSP Garg added: “We have started a probe and all accused will be arrested soon.”

SSP Sandeep Goyal said that officers are closely looking at the video. Based on what they find, necessary action will be taken.

This is not the first time Sidhu Moose Wala has been in the headlines for gun-related incidents.

He and fellow singer Mankirt Aulakh had cases registered against them after a music video went viral and allegedly promoted gun culture.

Some of the song lyrics included “I will knife them one by one” and “the guy whom you love is already booked for murder”.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh expressed concern over violence in the song.

He stated that singers like Sidhu Moose Wala and Mankirt Aulakh encourage the younger generation to follow a life of crime and violence.

A case was registered but it was later withdrawn after the singers successfully took anticipatory bail from the court.
