"I am thrilled to start this journey."
Sanjay Dutt is confirmed to be a part of Vijay’s Thalapathy 67, which will mark the actor’s Tamil debut.
Still using a working title, many of the film’s details remain under wraps, although it is touted to be a gangster drama.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Thalapathy 67 announced Sanjay Dutt’s involvement in the film.
On joining the cast, the veteran actor said:
“When I heard the one-liner of the film, I knew exactly at the moment that I had to be a part of it.
“I am thrilled to start this journey.”
Production company Seven Screen Studio tweeted:
“We feel esteemed to welcome Sanjay Dutt sir to Tamil Cinema and we are happy to announce that he is a part of Thalapathy 67.”

Sanjay made his Kannada debut in 2022’s KGF: Chapter 2.
Cinematography is by Manoj Paramahamsa while Anirudh is responsible for the music.
Lokesh will be responsible for writing the screenplay along with Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy.
Principal photography took place on January 2, 2023.
Filmmakers Gautham Menon and Mysskin are also acting in the film.
Priya Anand has also joined the film and said:
“Thrilled to be a part of Thalapathy 67. Looking forward to working with such an incredible cast and crew.”
It has been implied that the film is part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, though this is yet to be confirmed officially.
Rumours previously circulated that Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil would be in the film.
Fahadh Faasil had hinted at a role, stating that it will fall under Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cinematic Universe and so there are chances for him to be a part of the film.
Another star who is heavily rumoured to star in the film is Trisha Krishnan, who previously starred opposite Aishwarya Rai in Ponniyin Selvan: I.
The cast and crew of Thalapathy 67 flew to Kashmir, where they will be filming a large portion of the film over the next few months.
Rumours that Trisha would be in the film were fuelled when she was spotted at Chennai airport.
Wearing a black face mask, Trisha was seen wearing a casual checkered shirt and matching black jeans.
Although her role in the film is yet to officially be announced, it would mark her first collaboration with Vijay in 15 years.
An announcement teaser was expected for January 26, however, it was postponed. It is now believed to be released in the first week of February.
The filmmakers are expected to make further announcements about the cast in the coming weeks.
