"I almost committed suicide."
A fresh controversy has emerged regarding the new movie Saiyaara, which features Ahaan Panday and actress Aneet Padda.
Filmmaker Amit Jadhav publicly alleged that this film closely resembles the storyline of his own 2019 short film Khwaabon.
The claims have gained significant traction online after Jadhav shared a video on his personal Instagram account quite recently.
He believes there are striking similarities between the narratives of both the big budget production and his short film.
Amit Jadhav mentioned that he felt shocked after he first discovered the many similarities between these two creative works.
“I had tried speaking up last year too. I had actually received a direct message on Instagram, from YRF Talent in 2022, they wanted to get in touch with me.
“I asked them which project are they reaching out to me for, they didn’t answer.
“I didn’t know anyone there, neither had I given any audition for them to reach out.
“A week after Saiyaara’s release, my friends called me and said ‘tera toh story same tha’ I was shocked.
“I tried reaching out to them, even going to their office but my friends said they won’t entertain me or reply.”
In 2025, there were also discussions suggesting that Saiyaara might have been inspired the 2004 production A Moment To Remember.
However, Jadhav argues that the similarities to his own work are actually much more pronounced because of the musical element.
The situation has taken a significant emotional toll on the young filmmaker who had long hoped to expand his story.
“I am a singer, so I kept getting work, I relaxed a bit because of that. But one day I almost committed suicide.
“I was sloshed, my parents saw and that’s how I got saved.
“I felt like the world doesn’t want me to succeed. I was not called for any auditions.”
Despite these immense difficulties he continued working on a script for a full length feature project of his own.
“I had got producers too. We were going to shoot in 2025. But then Saiyaara happened, everything got derailed.”
Jadhav explained that his plans for a film shoot in 2025 were completely ruined because of the movie release.
When asked about copyright protection he stated that the story was not formally registered at the time of release.
“I am a part of the Screenwriter’s Association, but no I did not get the story registered in 2019 because it was a short film and out on a public platform as proof.”
Jadhav later attempted to contact the production house again after the film release but he received no response back.
“I mailed twice, got no answer.”
Currently he is not pursuing any major legal demands but he is simply hoping for some form of recognition.
“I should get some credit. Or I can be cast in some role atleast in some project. That’s all I am seeking.”
Saiyaara director Mohit Suri has not yet commented on these serious allegations made by the independent filmmaker.
