"I was then greeted with an outburst of racism."
A restaurant owner from Sutton Coldfield was racially abused by a customer over a £10 bill for the food.
Mohammed Saeid, also known as Jay, runs Robby’s Indian Fine Dining in Kingswinford. He had been delivering a takeaway that was “heavily discounted” due to an error on the restaurant’s behalf when the altercation took place.
He said he was physically assaulted on the doorstep when he asked for £10 to cover the cost of add-ons and delivery.
Mr Saeid explained: “I went to deliver a takeaway to a customer that we heavily discounted due to previous error on our part.
“When I went over, I said it was £10 for the add-ons and delivery charge. The customer refused to pay, saying he didn’t have £10.
“I was then greeted with an outburst of racism. I was grabbed by the blazer, and then a woman came and snatched the food out of my hands.
“It took me by surprise, I’ve never encountered something like that from a customer before.”
The police were then called to the address. Since then, Mr Saeid has made a formal complaint against two customers.
He said: “The police were called and it was dealt with very quickly.
“I didn’t want them taken into custody, especially with everything that’s going at the moment.
“To all the local delivery drivers in the area, please be careful when you are making deliveries, especially during the evenings where it’s getting darker earlier.”
Mr Saeid said that despite the ordeal, the support from customers and the community has helped turn “a negative into a positive”.
The restaurant owner added: “Robby’s will continue to always strive in Kingswinford serving the community and always look to rectify any errors.
“We were recently giving out free meals to the vulnerable. We have a lot of customers who get behind us.”
One customer wrote on Facebook: “We had a fab meal with you guys this evening. Great food and lovely service.
“Keep up the fab work and sorry you had to deal with so-called customers.”
Another said: “Shocked at this. We had a brilliant night in the restaurant as always, would definitely recommend.”
Mr Saeid previously said he was left sickened after a troll left several racist reviews on Tripadvisor in 2019.
One review claimed the business was a “terrorist front” and was used by a “grooming gang”.
Other reviews personally attacked the business and the staff.
Mr Saeid said: “It’s crazy to see such comments about different businesses within the area and the contents which it was used.
“I felt sick to my stomach reading what this individual has stated.”
“There is no way the reviews are genuine.
“But to see the lengths someone is ready to go to damage a well-respected business and its reputation really does baffle me.”
