"he ran out and bit the throat of an aged lady"
A quarantined man horrifically killed an elderly woman by biting her. The incident happened in Tamil Nadu.
The 32-year-old man had returned from a trip to Sri Lanka. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the man was under home quarantine.
However, on Friday, March 27, 2020, he ran out of his house naked and attacked the 80-year-old who lived two streets away.
Manikandan bit the woman in the throat, causing major injuries.
Following the incident, the victim was rushed to the hospital but due to the severity of her injuries, she died a day later.
A police official said: “Manikandan had returned from Sri Lanka. He was home-quarantined.
“But on Friday, he ran out and bit the throat of an aged lady living two streets away.”
After he returned from Sri Lanka, Manikandan was advised by the health authorities to remain under home quarantine as per protocols for returnees in order to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.
The man abided by the rules until March 27 when all of a sudden, he left his house naked and ran through the street.
Shocked family members, including his father, gave chase and tried to stop Manikandan.
However, the man continued running and eventually grabbed the victim, who was sitting outside her house and bit her in the neck.
Police have confirmed that Manikandan has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
Officers said that the man operated a clothes business which ran seasonally.
After his arrest, Manikandan was taken to the hospital and tested for Coronavirus. Doctors are also looking at any possible mental health problems.
A police officer said that there were no issues between Manikandan and the elderly woman.
Police are working to find out why he broke quarantine and attacked the woman.
The government had issued an order for all foreign returnees to remain in home quarantine for 14 days in order to control the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
So far, 42 people in Tamil Nadu have been affected by the deadly virus while one has lost his life.
The government said that four positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the state on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
While two men had recently returned from abroad, the third person was a 60-year-old man. All three are in stable condition under isolation in different hospitals.
