Priyanka Chopra compares Bollywood and Hollywood

"You have to find your own uniqueness and that has to work for you"

Priyanka Chopra is taking Hollywood by storm.

From appearances on Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show to meeting A-lister Meryl Streep, Priyanka is breaking the monotony of Indian actors playing minor cameo roles with her Hollywood success and recognition.

While Priyanka has been a household name in Bollywood for some time now, the last few years have seen the talented actress move overseas to pursue Hollywood projects.

She is now facing her busiest year yet.

In an interview before the Golden Globes, Priyanka tells IANS: “This is an exciting year. Season two of Quantico is coming on January 23 and then Baywatch is releasing in May. As producers, we are launching five films.”

The 34-year-old actress’ fame from Quantico led her to get a role in the revived Baywatch movie, also starring the likes of Zac Efron and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

But how did Priyanka become so successful in Hollywood? What’s her secret?

In her interview, she says her approach to acting in Hollywood is the same as when she was in India:

“I think the same thing that worked in Hindi films worked for me internationally. I am not afraid of being myself.”

She adds: “You have to stand out. You have to find your own uniqueness and that has to work for you. So those who want to be an actress, whether it is in America or in India, you have to find who you are and be comfortable with it.”

Clearly making a huge splash in Hollywood, Priyanka turned heads at the Golden Globes red carpet in a dazzling custom-made Ralph Lauren gold gown.

Priyanka posted a picture on her Instagram with one of her acting idols, Meryl Streep. Streep won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes. The veteran actress made quite a stir with her anti-Trump sentiments during her speech.

Priyanka captioned the picture: “Quoting my favourite #MerylStreep, as I call an end to this night…when you have a broken heart…make art. You are astounding! #FanGirl”

PC has also attended other notable celebrity events, including the Emmy Awards, and was even invited to the White House Correspondents Dinner.

In the IANS interview, the actress also discussed her past difficulties of first getting into the Bollywood industry.

She admits: “When I wanted to do movies, it was very difficult to get in because I was not from the industry; I did not know anyone.”

Her experience prompted her to launch Purple Pebble Productions ‘to give a platform to young talent’.

“It was very important for me to give an opportunity to new talent. We are a very small company, but I want to make path-breaking films.”

Priyanka also confesses how she would not be as successful as she is without the support from family, friends and fans:

“I am always surrounded by people who love me. I have wonderful people in my life, encouraging me and pushing me forward; so I never felt that I am doing this alone.”

She continues: “I feel support is the biggest strength a woman actually needs in this world. As soon as you have the support from people around you, you can achieve everything.”

When asked about whether she fears failure, Priyanka responds:

“I don’t like it; so I don’t make room for it. It happens with everybody and it is something that you cannot sideline. It’s part of the game and you learn how to play it, and I hope I am playing it well.”

With such an amazing start to the year, we look forward to what the rest of 2017 brings for Priyanka!
