Karan Johar retaliates as a Twitter troll asks: “Are you gay?” after excerpts from his autobiography An Unsuitable Boy are released.

Karan Johar hits back at twitter troll after questioning sexuality

"Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don’t need to scream it out."

Indian filmmaker, Karan Johar’s sexuality has always been an ongoing topic of debate among fans and the media.

The renowned director is set to reveal all in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, which has been co-written with journalist Poonam Saxena.

While the launch date is expected for 15th January 2017, speculation of what secrets the book will reveal have already taken over social media channels.

With some excerpts from his new autobiography suggesting that Karan has struggled to come to terms with his sexuality over the years, many commentators have bombarded Karan on his Twitter.

In particular, one troll tweeted: “Are you gay? I’m ready to lay if you launch me.”

Having not publically disclosing his sexuality, Karan angrily replied to the Twitter user ‘Indian Sherlock’, who questioned him about his sexual orientation.

A fired up Karan then hit back with the following tweet:

“Listen Sherlock!!! First solve the mystery of your existence??? The prize will be to LAUNCH a missile up your arse!!!”

Of course, the question of his sexuality will prove to be the USP of this tell-all autobiography.

Some fans wonder if he is in denial about his sexuality, and whether he will ever admit it publically.

In the excerpts of An Unsuitable Boy, Karan Johar mentions he does not need to “scream” about his sexuality or “spell it out” because everyone already knows about it:

“Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don’t need to scream it out.

“If I need to spell it out, I won’t only because I live in a country where I could possibly be jailed for saying this. Which is why I Karan Johar will not say the three words that possibly everybody knows about me.”

Excerpts also reveal Karan’s struggle to accept his sexuality in a country like India, which will possibly imprison him for being homosexual.

He says: “The reason I don’t say it out aloud is simply that I don’t want to be dealing with the FIRs.

“I’m very sorry. I have a job, I have a commitment to my company, to my people who work for me; there are over a hundred people that I’m answerable to.”

“I’m not going to sit in the courts because of ridiculous, completely bigoted individuals who have no education, no intelligence.”

Karan Johar also addresses the backlash he receives from trolls on social media. He says he ignores the “200 hate posts” a day of negative comments and people who mock his sexuality:

“I have become like the poster boy of homosexuality in this country. But honestly, I have no problem with people saying what they want about me.”

In particular, many have commented on his close relationship with friend Shahrukh Khan:

“For heaven’s sake, for years there were rumours about Shahrukh and me. And I was traumatised by it. I was on a show on a Hindi channel, and I was asked about Shahrukh. ‘Yeh anokha rishta hai aap ka,’ the interviewer said.

“He worded it in such a way that I got really angry. I said, ‘If I asked you if you are sleeping with your brother, how will you feel?’ So he said, ‘What do you mean? How can you ask me this question?’ I said, ‘How could you ask me this question?’

“For me, no matter what ups and downs Shahrukh and I have been through, he is a father figure, an older brother to me. For me to look at him in that way or be subjected to those rumours was just ridiculous.”

Despite Karan’s cool demeanour most of the time, the Twitter abuse appears to have become too much to simply ignore.

After his retort to ‘Indian Sherlock’, KJo has received much support from fans.

In particular, the film fraternity has always had his back.

Close friend and Baadshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan is also expected to launch the highly anticipated book alongside Karan Johar on the 15th January 2017.
