Following her presentation of the Oscar nominations, Priyanka Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian to do so.

The actress has made history by announcing the Oscars 2021 nominees, as she is the first Desi person to make the announcements in the Academy Awards’ 93 years.

The 2021 Oscars is already celebrating diversity, with the likes of Riz Ahmed, Viola Davis and Chloe Zhao receiving nominations.

Priyanka presented the nominations alongside her husband Nick Jonas.

Fans of Chopra were quick to notice her milestone and took to social media to congratulate her on her latest achievement.

One said: “Way to go @priyankachopra you make us all proud #oscarnominations #PriyankaChopra”

Another said: “When #PriyankaChopra says she wants to have a legacy, she is not joking.

“Hats off to this woman. I am in awe of her achievements.”

A third tweeted: “They both did an amazing job. Well done. #PriyankaChopra #NickJonas”

However, Chopra’s Oscars appearance did not stop there, as her own film The White Tiger also received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Chopra took to Twitter to share her excitement about the nomination, as well as her pride in being able to make the announcement herself.

Her tweet came on Monday, March 15, 2021.

Chopra tweeted:

“We just got nominated for an Oscar! Congratulations Ramin and team #TheWhiteTiger.

“Somehow announcing the nomination myself made is so much more special. So so proud.”

As expected, messages poured in to congratulate the actress on her film’s nomination.

One user said:

“Congratulations! It was an awesome movie to watch, great to see it nominated for the Oscars! Good luck for the final lap.”

Another said: “No words. This is a history-making moment. Congratulations PC. Unimaginably huge.”

A third sent their congratulations to Chopra, while also giving a nod to the history-making film.

They said:

“A big big congratulations to you & team #TheWhiteTiger. Well deserved!

“It’s such a great moment in time, considering this is an all-Indian cast.

“Proud of you for backing this film!”

News of The White Tiger’s Oscar nomination came shortly after Priyanka Chopra announced her newest professional venture.

The actress has channelled her love of Indian food into becoming the co-owner of a new Indian restaurant.

The New York City restaurant, SONA, is due to open sometime in March 2021.
