"I've probably sent him somewhere else in Birmingham."

As part of their tour around the UK before the Coronation, Prince William and Kate Middleton paid a visit to The Indian Streatery restaurant in Birmingham.

During their visit, the Prince of Wales did something unexpected by answering a phone call and taking a reservation from a customer who had no idea who he was talking to.

The customer in question, Vinay Aggarwal, called the restaurant to make a booking and found himself speaking to Prince William himself.

The Prince asked for Vinay’s name and what time he wanted to come, but had to inform him that they could not accommodate him immediately due to the restaurant being busy.

William suggested a different time for Vinay to come but Meena Sharma, head chef and co-owner of the restaurant had to inform him that they had no tables free at that time either.

William ended the call with a light-hearted joke, saying:

“I’ve probably sent him somewhere else in Birmingham.”

When Vinay and his wife Ankita Gulati arrived at the restaurant later, they had no idea that they had spoken to the Prince earlier.

Vinay was surprised to learn that it was Prince William who had taken his call and said:

“Oh! William took the call! I didn’t know at all. That is a surprise. I thought I had made a genuine booking.”

During their visit, William and Kate also attempted to make roti.

The person who made the best roti would be offered a permanent job in the kitchen.

Unfortunately for William, his attempt at making a roti was a disaster, with holes and uneven thickness, while Kate’s was perfect.

Meena did not hold back her thoughts on William’s cooking skills and commented:

“Sir doesn’t have any at all.”

William also revealed that he is not a fan of spicy food, unlike Kate who loves it.

When they were offered dishes to try, William’s bhel puri chaat had less chilli and no coriander, which he dislikes.

However, it seems that he may have accidentally tried the wrong dish, as he coughed and exclaimed:

“There is some spice in that. Cor!”

Overall, the royal visit has been deemed a success in Birmingham, with William and Kate demonstrating their willingness to engage with the public and try their hand at different activities.

Their visit to the Indian Streatery was particularly memorable, thanks to William’s unexpected phone call and his less-than-stellar roti-making skills.
