"We are proud of our longstanding commitment to India"

The Premier League has announced the opening of a new office in Mumbai to deepen its ties with Indian fans and football institutions.

The move is designed to strengthen the League’s presence in one of its fastest-growing international markets.

This new office will support partnerships, boost grassroots programmes and expand elite-level collaboration with local stakeholders.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “We and our clubs have a fantastic and knowledgeable fanbase in India, and we know football continues to grow in popularity.

“We are proud of our longstanding commitment to India, having worked to deliver community football programmes for 18 years and, more recently, our partnership with the Indian Super League.

“Opening this office marks a significant milestone for the Premier League.

“It will allow us to operate more effectively locally as we build on our existing work to establish more ways to strengthen our relationship with fans, JioStar and other partners.

“We are looking forward to the opportunities it will create in the region.”

The League has worked in India since 2007 through its Premier Skills programme, run in partnership with the British Council.

The initiative focuses on training local coaches, referees and educators.

Over 7,300 professionals have been supported to date, reaching more than 124,000 young people across 18 Indian states.

At the elite level, collaboration with the Indian Super League (ISL) began in 2014. The partnership has enabled knowledge-sharing in areas such as youth development, coaching standards and refereeing.

The League also organises the Next Gen Cup in partnership with the ISL and Reliance Foundation.

The international youth tournament will return to Mumbai in May 2025, featuring ISL academies and Under-19 teams from Premier League clubs.

The Mumbai office will serve as a hub for football development and fan engagement.

It will work closely with the League’s broadcast partner JioStar, aiming to deliver events and campaigns that bring Indian fans closer to their favourite clubs.

India becomes the latest market to host a Premier League office after Singapore, New York and Beijing. Each location supports local initiatives and partnerships tailored to regional needs.

The League’s first international office opened in Singapore in 2019, focused on anti-piracy efforts and broadcast relations.

Offices in New York (opened in 2023) and Beijing (2024) were launched to strengthen local fan engagement and grow the League’s global footprint.
