Billionaire Mukesh Ambani is reportedly interested in buying newly-for-sale Liverpool.

The club’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), put the club up for sale.

It is believed that Ambani has already enquired about the club.

But he will have to fight off interest from other parties from the Middle East and the USA, with FSG receiving numerous offers.

According to reports, they are willing to sell Liverpool for £4 billion and there is a greater desire to buy the club outright.

But the figure will not put off sports fan Ambani, who has a net worth of around £90 billion.

Ambani owns IPL team Mumbai Indians and helped to set up Indian football’s Super League.

He would be willing to invest in the club for transfers to maintain Liverpool’s status as one of Europe’s top clubs.

Under manager Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have won the Premier League, Champions League and both domestic cups.

The German has since reinforced his commitment to the club.

He said: “We knew about it a bit longer, their thoughts, and I don’t 100% understand why people are all saying it gets sold.

“What I read was they are looking for investors and that makes sense. A good idea, I like that.

“It didn’t distract the preparation [for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Derby] at all.

“The players didn’t ask me but if they want to ask me I can tell them everything.

“For me it means nothing. Whatever happens, I really like how we work together with our owners but if that would change I’m committed to the club, obviously.

“As far as I know, they are looking for investors and I thought that makes sense.”

If Mukesh Ambani is successful in buying Liverpool, fans will be excited as some believe FSG have not fully backed them in the transfer market.

But Ambani won’t have the negotiating table to himself once interest from Dubai, Bahrain and the USA hardens which is great news for FSG co-founder John W Henry and his associates.

Fenway employed investment banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to test the water over possible investment in the club or a complete takeover.

This is not the first time Mukesh Ambani has shown interest in Liverpool.

In 2010, Ambani, along with fellow Indian industrialist Subrata Roy, tried to buy Liverpool from its former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

FSG beat them to it back then with a £300 million offer.
