Mariyam Nafees brands Pakistan ‘Corrupt’ & ‘Untruthful’

In an unfiltered interview, Mariyam Nafees called Pakistan a “corrupt” and “untruthful” nation. Find out more.

"Nothing happens here on merit."

In a recent interview, Mariyam Nafees did not hold back as she discussed her opinion about Pakistan.

The television star appeared on Adnan Faisal’s podcast where she was asked about the country.

Mariyam had some scathing thoughts. She declared: “The majority of [Pakistan] is corrupt, untruthful, lazy, and laid back.

“We are corrupt – nothing happens here on merit.

“What happens here on foreign and local levels is ridiculous. Inflation, political instability, and domestic issues are not the only issues here.

“There are more concerning and serious issues like kidnapping, harassment, assaults and killings.

“Do you know schooling of children has become a task in Pakistan?

“There are no healthcare facilities and we lack basic education and health facilities.

“I am not happy with the system in Karachi. Do you know Karachi has become the second most dangerous city in the world?

“I wouldn’t say I like Karachi and its system. I have issues with roads, weather and plantation.

“Yes, the people here are good but nobody is ready to take ownership.”

Mariyam Nafees continued to state that nobody should judge anyone else.

She said: “If you work hard, you deserve a good life. Nobody should judge anybody who wears Gucci or anything else.

“It’s your hard-earned money and you deserve to spend it on whatever you want.

“You are not answerable to anybody and that is what I’ve learnt from my husband.

“Women don’t feel secure. It’s the men who have made us feel insecure.”

Mariyam also delved into the disparity between the treatment of sons and daughters.

She explained: “Men can sit naked and nobody will tell them anything.

“I have a friend who has a son and she says, ‘I feel a larger sense of responsibility because I have to raise a son’.

“Sons roam around like loose buffaloes. If you call your daughter home on time, why can’t you do the same with your son?

“You should have the same rules and regulations for your son as you have for your daughter.”

This is not the first time when Mariyam Nafees hit controversial headlines in recent months.

In July 2024, Mariyam defended a group of girls who beat a salesman in Lahore.

Mariyam claimed that she knew the girls and said:

“Unfortunately, we live in a society where you have to provide proof if you have been harassed.

“And the ones who demand it are usually the ones who have been harassed themselves several times, so none of this [public reaction] comes as a shock to me.

“Those girls are now getting death threats and rape threats.

“But no one knows the other side of the story. That man started calling them a prostitute and used other filthy words before telling them to get out.

“So they asked, ‘Why should we get out?’

“Just because the girls were wearing Western clothes and had stepped out for some tea, people assumed they were public property.

“I just want to know, if girls are wearing Western clothes, is there any safety? Is there any accountability?”

“You men out there – if another man starts commenting on the chest size of your mother or sister, how would you react?

“None of these girls come from powerful families.

“One of them has come from another city. This is not an act of power.”

In 2022, Mariyam Nafees married Aman Ahmed.

On the work front, she was last seen in Siyaah (2023) where she played Amber.
