A man from Nottinghamshire has been jailed for sharing a racist video of the UK Home Secretary Priti Patel.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jake Henderson posted the 50-second video on the social media platform Snapchat.

The video has been viewed “millions of times”, and Henderson is now being accused of “inciting racial hatred”.

In the video, Henderson can be heard saying:

“As a white man, I won’t be listening to people of colour.”

Henderson appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 12, 2021, and handed a ten-week prison sentence.

A second man, 26-year-old Robert Cumming from Doncaster, also appeared in court for a similar offence.

He received a six-week prison sentence for sharing Henderson’s video.

He shared the video of Priti Patel to his own Snapchat account with the caption: “Haters gonna be hating.”

According to prosecutor Daniel Church, Cumming’s decision to share the video was “effectively an endorsement for what Mr Henderson was saying”.

Therefore, both men pled guilty to a single charge of sending a grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message or matter via a public communication network, received prison sentences.

According to District Judge Andrew Meachin, he considered suspending the prison sentences.

However, the racial nature of the offences led him to send the two men to jail instead.

While handing down Henderson and Cumming’s sentence, Meachin said:

“I doubt the potential consequences can be quantified.

“Mr Henderson clearly knew what he was doing when he made the video clip and Mr Cumming clearly knew what he was doing when he shared it on.”

During Henderson’s court appearance, it was revealed that he has been cautioned for previous racial offenses.

In March 2015, Henderson was cautioned by police for threatening to firebomb a taxi company, because he heard they were “displaying ISIS flags”.

Prosecutor Daniel Church also read out some of Henderson’s views to the court. In one video, he is heard saying:

“A black man’s place is under a white man.”

Another statement Henderson has made in the past reveals that he “wished he could round up all ethnic minorities and put them in a cage”.

According to members of the public, Henderson’s video of Priti Patel demonstrates his “extreme ideological views”.

However, his solicitor argued that external circumstances caused Henderson to make the racist video, and that he is deeply remorseful.

The solicitor said that he “was having a difficult time at work” and “found lockdown particularly difficult”.

The solicitor added: “In drink, he made a horrid video and is exceptionally sorry for what has happened.”
