Singer KK has passed away at the age of 53 following a concert performance in Kolkata, having felt unwell after reaching his hotel.

Singer KK tragically passed away shortly after performing in Kolkata.

The 53-year-old had performed at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha auditorium.

According to reports, KK told concert organisers that he was not feeling well, however, he continued his performance.

He continued to feel unwell afterwards when he reached his hotel.

KK was taken to a hospital in South Kolkata but doctors declared him brought dead.

A senior official at the hospital said: “It’s unfortunate that we could not treat him.”

The post-mortem will take place on June 1, 2022, but initial reports say KK died of a heart attack.

Minister Aroop Biswas said: “Singer Anupam Roy called me up and said he is hearing something bad from the hospital.

“Then I contacted the hospital. They said he was brought dead. Then I rushed to the hospital.”

Krishnakumar Kunnath, known by his stage name KK, was known for songs like ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which went on to become big hits among teens in the late 1990s, often heard during school and college farewells and teenage cultural events.

In his memoir on The Mesmeriser, KK had said:

“There is a certain energy an artiste gets when he or she is on stage.

“No matter what one’s condition is, once I am on stage, I forget everything and simply perform.”

His 1999 debut album Pal was critically acclaimed.

From the early 2000s, he forged a career in playback music and recorded various hit tracks for Bollywood films.

KK provided hits such as ‘Tadap Tadap’ (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam), ‘Dus Bahane’ (Dus), and ‘Tune Maari Entriyaan’ (Gunday).

KK was a versatile singer, recording songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali.

News of his death caused shockwaves and many paid their respects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted:

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK.”

“His songs reflected a wide range of emotions and struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”

Akshay Kumar said: “Extremely sad and shocked to know of the sad demise of KK. What a loss! Om Shanti.”

Singer Harshdeep Kaur wrote: “Just can’t believe that our beloved KK is no more.

“This really can’t be true. The voice of love has gone. This is heartbreaking.”
