He was taken captive, robbed and subjected to torture.
Renowned dramatist and screenwriter Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has recently become a victim of kidnapping and assault.
According to a case registered at Sunder Police Station, Qamar was abducted and tortured by armed men.
The incident took place on the night of July 15, 2024, and the FIR was filed on July 21 upon his safe release.
The FIR revealed that Qamar received a call from a woman named Amna Arooj.
She lured him to her residence under the pretence of discussing a potential drama project.
However, upon arriving at the given address, Qamar was ambushed by a group of armed men.
He was taken captive, robbed and subjected to torture.
The kidnappers then transported him to multiple locations while demanding a ransom from his family, threatening him with death.
Throughout the ordeal, the assailants confiscated Qamar’s mobile phone, watch and cash.
They also forced him to transfer Rs. 267,000 (£740) to their account.
After enduring several hours of torment, Qamar was blindfolded and abandoned in a deserted area, while the kidnappers fled the scene.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar claimed he would be able to identify the assailants if presented to him.
Interestingly, it has been revealed that the famous writer initially hesitated to take legal action and did not register an FIR regarding his abduction.
Many are attributing this to the fact that he was “honey-trapped”.
Instead, he verbally shared the details of the incident with a senior police official.
However, the police convinced him to file an FIR.
As the investigation into Qamar’s abduction progresses, there have been developments in the case.
Four suspects, including a woman, have been arrested so far and it is reported that a gang of eight people may be involved.
The authorities are conducting inquiries to gather more information and bring all those responsible for the heinous act to justice.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s career, spanning several decades, has not been without controversy.
He has often found himself embroiled in public disputes and faced backlash for his outspoken views.
Notably, his public spats with Mahira Khan and activist Marvi Sirmed have garnered significant attention.
Qamar’s controversial remarks about the Aurat March and offensive comments about Marvi Sirmed have further polarised public opinion.
Recently, Qamar made headlines again after a heated verbal exchange with a woman on a TV show.
Additionally, his admission of enmity with actor Nauman Ejaz garnered considerable attention on social media.
It is evident that Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s public image has been marred by controversy and he is not held in high regard by a significant portion of the public.
